The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

A-Maze-ing in surround

Man would I love to hear Embryonic and The Terror in surround...

Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub) - Groove Armada (Hybrid MultiCh SACD).

Finally getting around to opening some sealed stuff that got lost in the proverbial pile.. Surround mix is much more aggressive than I remember it being on the old DTS rip I DL'd about 5 years ago. Fun! :p oh and it's BASS-TASTIC!!! in a doof-doof-doof way, for anyone who's into that kinda thang! :D

Legion Of Boom - The Crystal Method (DVD-Audio).

More doof-doof-doofing.. not sure I'm as into this as the Groove Armada.. the mix is very very active but it's a bit dull. I'm persevering for now.. the surround is so good but musically a bit "meh"!

Eat A Peach - The Allman Brothers Band (Hybrid MultiCh SACD).

Not played this in ages.. still as good and solid as I remember, musically very much my cup of tea.. great sound quality, mix isn't the most discrete but its immersive and definitely more than ambience/reverb/or double stereo, there's shakers and bongos and other cool stuff happening in the rears from word go.. the mix feels natural and not mucked about with, its rootsy and organic which I guess befits the jamming vibe of the band... lovely :)

Night Sessions - Chris Botti (MultiCh SACD).

Elegant and engaging, smooth and sultry.. its laid back and a bit jazz-lite in places but the surround mix is anything but its incredibly active with all manner of gorgeous little things happening from all over the place without ever feeling forced! Unmissable.

Katatonia - Dead End Kings DTS DVD followed by Beatles - Hey Jude album up mix.

Huh? Don't you have the DVD-A of the Dead End Kings? Was there a DVD-V only version. I think you're the second person to say that...

I bought Dead End Kings off eBay with the standard cryptic imprecise CD/DVD description. Didn't know there were two versions until now. Like it enough to chase a DVDA.

Quatermass "Deluxe" DVD-V.

I can't see myself enduring this again.

Dreadful lo-fi sound and I don't reckon its got anything to do with it being "only" DTS.. its thick, stodgy, maximised.. yuck.. everything just sits there in an overloud indistinct mess.. and what an odd surround mix (is it mostly an upmix as the liner notes suggest? some tracks are seemingly sourced from CD according to the booklet?!?@: liner notes appear quite comprehensive but I feel are rather poorly written.. or are they just intentionally vague, I can't quite work out which!?).. what a waste of time & money.. so disappointing, I was so looking forward to this.

Qn. ..why was a 5.1 remix persevered with when it was discovered that almost all of the multi's were missing??

I have to agree... disappointing to say the least!

I might have to listen to the PCM and see how that goes via the surround master instead...

I'd be interested to see how it pans out! I bet it wipes the floor with the so-called 5.1 remix! (why they couldn't just call it what it is - an upmix - I do not know!? It's not a crime! There are many good upmixes out there!). If the PCM is similarly brickwalled and horrible-sounding of course then it might be better to track down an old CD of it in the hope that the mastering is more palatable!

ELP - Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends Q8 to DVD-A interwebs version :51banana: Lots O' Fun Surround Stuff! First time I have listened to this in over a year.
Finally got around to going through re-setting up my Onkyo/OPPO with analog connections since my HDMI board died so now I have all my surround ducks in a row again can enjoy all my surround disc HOORAY!
