All such wonderful recordings...from Steely Dan, to Joe Walsh's Rocky Mountain Way..it does bring back some memories of good times. :)
Fleetwood Mac Say you will currently playing!

Depeche Mode-Violator DVD-V DTS 96/24 (I gave up on SACD a while ago...sold most of my DM SACDs for good money!...and got the way cheaper DVD-V versions instead), not a very "Sunday morning" music selection...but I felt like it!

Will probably play something "sunnier" later...

You Gave up on SACD? Truthfully I only have 1 SACD that's Queen's Night At The Opera. My brother spied that and said how come you have that?? dunno.(played dumb) he proceeded to tell me how he should have that and I don't need it. LOL Sometimes, I just don't get it.. Oh Well life moves on or you get run over! :0

Uriah Heep: Look At Yourself Classic Heep!!
Gotta love Heep!! brings back good memories of David Bryon and Gary Thain
Classic lineup...probably the best lineup Heep ever had

Kap'n krunch You hit the nail on the head there...Thain is in a class of bassists with the likes of Chris Squire, Paul McCartney, Getty Lee, John Paul Jones, John Deacon. There are others in that class but do you know why those folks are so good? They can write melodies. That separates the good players from the greats. IMHO

The last time I have seen Uriah Heep was in 2010 at Penns Peak, Jim Thorpe, PA. They were fantastic and such nice folks to talk too. Trevor Bolder was a good bassist as well. RIP Trevor

Oh Yeah!! Good One LizardKing. I have all of David Bryon's Solo albums...your right there man...that's a tough one to find but soooooooooooo fine indeed!

Don't forget The Ox!

Can't forget John Entwistle! Did you know that John was the only musically educated person in that band...also played horn. :) Just a great player

Is the SDOTM SACD mix that much different then the Parsons Quad mix...I never heard the SACD mix.

Oooh... dangerous question! ;) There seem to be a number of camps that prefer different versions. My first experience of a multi-channel DSOTM was the Parsons quad mix and it was my only experience of it for some while. I read many reports of the SACD mix not being up to scratch and I only got that disc 6 months ago or so. I've never experienced the Blu Ray collection of mixes, which would be a good way of listening to all the available mixes, but I guess it all boils down to personal preference. Allegedly, the band didn't like the quad mix that Parsons did and they then commissioned their current engineer, James Guthrie, to do a 5.1 mix for the SACD release in 2003.

I suppose comparing a 1973 quad mix to a 5.1 mix done 30 years later is probably a bit unfair. I'm certain that had 5.1 been around in '73. Parsons would've done a sterling job in that format. Parsons has also claimed, naturally, that he prefers the quad mix, and to be fair to him, he was involved with the creation of the album itself, so I'd have to defer to his vastly superior knowledge of the material and the creative force behind it.

As for differences, well, one is a 4.0 mix, the other is 5.1. The quad mix I have has been enhanced to utilise the LFE channel. I guess, like most things, it's down to personal taste. You pick the mix you prefer, be it stereo, quad or 5.1 :)

You can find lots of interesting DSOTM multi-channel history and info here... https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/QQ-PFQ.htm

It's still a remarkable album and spookily, today is the 5th anniversary of Richard Wright's untimely passing :(

Album II - Kem (DVD-Audio DualDisc).

Pleasant surprise, this DualDisc is a DVD-Audio (48/24 MLP in 5.1).

On one quick listen, its got a seemingly subtle but genuinely discrete surround mix with cool things like little electric guitar "wocka-wocka-wocka-wow" & "Bom-chicka-wow" moments discrete in the rears.. tho I'm pretty sure it's 4.1!

I can't detect anything going on in the centre. someone more techy than me could put it thru a PC and check but I'm pretty sure its 4-channel.

what a kooky old disc! well worth hunting out though. very easy on the ears smooth soul, with nice fidelity for a more "modern" production, certainly not brickwalled or anything. Holy Neo-Motown quadtastic!

it's still readily available from several sellers new & sealed, including several of the eBay big e-tailers, I got mine from "BlowItOutaHere" for £7 ($11).

Another recent under the radar surround winner that can still be found for sensible money. Recommended (y) (y)

Kem Update:

just double-checking (by boosting volume level and putting ear right up close to centre speaker.. the technological approach! ha!) and there are a few little low level things in the centre, tiny little bit of lead vocal ambience and some tiny things like wind chimes etc but not essential to the mix & nothing unique or discrete, so its essentially a 4.1 mix with a minuscule amount of vocal bleed in centre channel. very nice it all is too. I'll be playing this a lot I reckon.

Monty Alexander, Calypso Blues, The Songs of Nat King Cole. Chesky The New York Sessions. A very well recorded easy listen on a Monday morning.
