I am switching between The Doors 3 5.1 versions of L.A.Woman. I am liking the DTS perception DVD the most thus far. Great mastering. The DVD A has far more bass than i remember. SACD next to try.

There are 3 different 5.1's of LA Woman? I thought both the SACD and "Perception" set re-used the old standalone DVD-A from 10+ years ago?

Same 5.1 mixes; 3 different mastering jobs!

I'm listening to (The Allman Brothers - Live at Fillmore East) DTS

I simply love that DTS CD - except for the one weird edit - I can't remember the track its on - where the guitar is blazing along and then BAM! Everything's different like some huge amount of tape was simply removed from the master quad tape. Does anyone know if that's a DTS CD-only issue or did the CD-4 LP have it too? And wasn't the album released on Q4 also? Does it have the edit?

Listening to the BD of the quad mix of Dark Side.... Since I got the Immersion box yesterday. Before that I was listening to Yazoo Upstairs At Eric's (I've adored that album since it came out my freshman year in HS and - the modern 5.1 mix is wonderful). I wish Bronski Beat had gotten a box set with 5.1 remixes like Yazoo.

in regards to Dark Side... What's the deal with the marbles in the Immersion box? Except for Dark Side..., which is one of those albums that I can't imagine anyone not liking, regardless of musical taste, I don't know much about Pink Floyd or their other albums - I have two DTS CD conversions of WYWH from the Q8 and SQ/Tate decoded, but I've never really listened to it. I'm glad I didn't have to pay full price for the Immersion box - I got it, still sealed with the info sticker on the shrink wrap, brand new but from the 'used' section of Amazon for $25 with $6.95 shipping. I would have paid that just for the BD in the set, so I think I got a good deal.

Wow, thats a amazing price on the PF DSOTM, how do you get a price like that, is there a way in Amazon to alert you some how if a price reaches a certain level on something you are looking for or is it just luck of the draw when checking for prices.
I have been looking for a price point under $50 before getting the Immersion as I already have the Sacd in 5.1.

I like the Yaz or Yazoo's as well in 5.1, always liked both albums since they came out in the 80's. Would be good to get Vince Clarke's other project Erasure in 5.1 as well.

Great deal like cap said. many of us took it up the shoot buying it, hence the marbles that are BS! As are the oter "collectables" in it. I feel it was just a way to drive up the price, as for me, love DSOTM, but who wants to sit and listen to it repeatedly? The only good disc is the BD.

I'd love some Erasure in 5.1..!! IIRC there's a DVD-V compilation of their music videos, never investigated if it has 5.1 mixes, perhaps a QQ-er who has it can confirm either way?

Hey Disclord... I've not been able to find the 'blip' you're talking about... Either I'm going deaf or I've not been paying attention... lolol... Any hints as to where it may be are surely welcome!

considering the Immersion box was supposed to be basically everything about Dark Side... it's a crying shame they didn't include the 2 channel SQ encoded version of the album. I've always found SQ mixes to sound 'cleaner' than their stereo counterparts and SQ has a unique property that CBS accidentally discovered a few years into the quad era - played over headphones, SQ provides a kind of virtual surround quad effect due to the broadband 90 degree phase shifts, and due to their leading and lagging phases it causes the LB or RB signal to 'lean' toward its correct side, further helping to identify the channels - Ben Bauer, SQ's inventor, called the effect "SQ Dicophony" and theorized that with headphones the head acted as sort of 'natural' SQ decoder. Anyway, I can play an SQ recording on headphones and localize each channel clearly. So to be complete, the SQ version should have been included - and wasn't Dark Side also released in QS or RM in Japan? (I hate how QS and RM are considered the same system when in fact only the four corners and CF/CB share the same encoding - for all other directions the systems are different)

I just happened to look up the box set on Amazon to see if it was still available new or what it was now priced at and in the "used" section was the $25 version and it was listed as brand new and still sealed - figuring it was a re-shrinkwrapped set, I bought it since I wanted the BD. When it arrived I was blown away to find that it really was brand new with the info sticker on the shrink wrap. Needless to say, I was thrilled. and then shocked at how over priced it was for what you actually got at the full retail price. and considering the importance of the album and its unique status on Billboards charts, irritated that there wasn't a single piece of original scholarship about the creation of the album, its recording, longevity, etc... and no interview with Alan Parsons on his quad mix because it has probably one of the best quad mixes ever done and provides a real, circular, soundstage instead of sounds just squirting from speakers. Having never heard the 5.1 mix before, I was truly amazed at how bad it is - it robs the album of all its life and it no longer puts you in a sonic environment - it makes you a spectator from the outside, not a participant.

I bought the SACD and I couldn't even make it to the end of the first listen...sold it right away!
