That's a beautiful recording of some of the best violin concertos by Vivaldi (or anyone else for that matter). Channel hit a home run with that one. Rachel Podger has done a fantastic for them. Her other recordings of Vivaldi, Bach, etc... are all superb. I especially like her cycle of Mozart's violin sonatas.

Gabriel Fauré - (SACD)

Requiem
Cantique de Jean Racine
Messe Basse

Tom Pickard, treble
Gerald Finley, baritone
Choir of King's College, Cambridge
Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment
Stephen Cleobury

Lovely performance of this gentle piece. Naturally immersive mix with subtle discrete elements in the surrounds.

I'm back to this one tonight as I've really fallen for this magnificent recording and piece of music:

Fritz Reiner & the Chicago Symphony - Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade - RCA Living Stereo SACD

I think I'll give in pretty soon and get the Analogue Production SACD of this title. That's how much I love it.

If you like Scheherazade, you might want to explore Rimsky-Koraskov's other music. This one from Pentatone is superb and offers excellent surround (ambient) sound...

Mysterious Traveller - Weather Report.

Thanks to Linda's recent posts on her new Return To Forever SACD acquisition and since there's only "Musicmagic" in Quad (which is spectacular and I'll probably play next, though I'm not sure if Linda digs that phase of RTF's career? ..weird for such a group you'd naturally assume would be a perfect fit for Quad/Surround..) anyway it got me thinking about Weather Report in Surround... and ultimately to comparing the SQ LP to the Surround SACD of Mysterious Traveller.. surprisingly there's not a lot in it.. sound quality is pretty much on a par (and the SACD is v.good) and the mix pans out really well in SQ thru the Surround Master.. if you haven't checked out either of the Weather Report Quad mixes yet, I urge you to do so, they're both excellent.

Mysterious Traveller is one of WR's best albums, musically.

Although it's far from bad, I've never really warmed to Tale Spinnin'. I got the SQ when it hit the street.

I saw Weather Report live w/Jaco at Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates, IL. Papa Joe said, "now Jaco will do his thing." Sitting atop an amp, Jaco broke into Purple Haze on his bass. Priceless!

I'm growing to like Tale Spinnin' more and more, though Mysterious Traveller is so good its a tough act to follow and quite different musically I can see why you would prefer it Mysterious to Spinning'... seems strange Sony never put the cash in to doing a 5.1 remix of Heavy Weather, I have mates who are real rock & pop only kinda guys who know about that album its on of those "albums you must hear before you die" kinda jobs isn't it..!

Ahh.. cool story about Jaco P....Thanks..! :upthumb
(I must try and find a copy of his solo SACD someday that won't require me to take out a bank loan..! :yikes )

Billy Joel - Streetlife Serenade - Audio Fidelity SACD

Just received it an hour ago. This one is a Home Run for me. I like it more than 52nd Street and as much as The Stranger. Wow that sounds good!

Although I do like 52nd St. & Stranger better, Streetlife is a wonderful album. Los Angelinos & Root Beer Rag!! A great Quad made better on 4.0 SACD. While you're at it, pick up Turnstiles on SQ LP. Another wonderful album "from the attic". As soon as I'm done listening to Azteca's Pyramid synthesized from Blu-Spec CD, I'm going to fire up the SQD-2020 and spin Turnstiles.

Hanging out on the beaches with their Mexican reefers...
