Following up with another one I've just received:

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus - DVD-V

Hi everyone! :)

Just received this and giving it my first spin: Elton John - Captain Brown and the Fantastic Dirt Cowboy - SACD (which sadly is only in a regular Jewel Case and not a SACD case)

Pics please my good man..!? :p

I'm curious if it was 2nd hand and SACD super jewel case been substituted with a redbook jewel case, or if this is like the Carpenters and Derek & The Dominos SACDs which initially cane
in the rounded edges super jewel cases but later came in a regular redbook jewel case when pressed up again down the line for the music club mail order jobs..?

No, this was a real sealed new copy and not a "reshrink" job. I suspect that this was a latter pressing for the North American market in a regular jewel case. My apologies for the crap snaps!

afaik even a "vintage" example was a N.American release.. were any of the 5 classic EJ standalone SACDs released officially outside of N.America? Peachtree and GYBR were also released in UK & Europe as well as the U.S but I don't think the others were?

I got this imported from the States as soon as the shipment arrived at HMV UK (they called me to say they had received them into stock.. how quaint!) SACD was still very much alive and major labels and artists were all over it (I didn't even have a player yet having "sided" with DVD-Audio.. these SACDs were supposed to be the first 'batch' and Elton had told them to "do the lot", so I was expecting 'a lot' more.. and we all know how that panned out.. big sigh.

It is a tad odd that they would have done a batch in regular jewel cases. Oh well, I still get the music. Does your booklet have the typo on the credit page? Mine says: Produced by Gus Dudgon.

It is weird.. but the regular jewelcases were possibly a natural progression/conclusion to Universal after inventory of the BMG Music Club thing had sold out, I don't know the back story, like you I'm not in the U.S of A.. :)

You may be right.

Mine has that too..but they spelled it correctly on the opposite page under acknowledgements...there is an interesting name I never noticed before...GUS SKINAS...he did the DSD editing...

Oh yes.. he is still doing amazing work on all the wonderful Audio Fidelity Surround discs.. a legend in the SACD world he IS Super Audio Mastering (Bmoura knows all about it, ask him I'm off for dinner. Peace and love to you all.)

That's what I meant! :D I know you're in the land of Canadia..! :p

I only read it correctly the second time which is why I violently erased my silly remark... :D

Currently enjoying my last arrival of the day, my very first RCA Living Stereo SACD: Fritz Reiner - Scheherazade (Rimsky-Korsakov)

Tell me you classical lovers and experts (oh, and Lute, I'm looking at you right now), are the Analogue Productions SACD reissues of these already superb sounding RCA SACDs that much better that they are worth paying three times the price? Thanks for your input!

Thumb sighting!(y)

Mine is likely the first pressing, if there were such things. I got it the first day it was out at the Tower Records in Schaumburg, IL. There's an REI store there today, and it BREAKS MY HEART! Gus Dudgon is listed in the credits on the last page.

IMHO, Writing is the best track on the album.

Don't disturb us if you hear us trying to instigate the structure of another line or two...

Oh it's SUPER..!! :D

So, Simon.. (To hell with the jewel case!) How are you enjoying the surround mix on Captain Fantastic so far..?

Well, to be honest, I am not a huge fan of this album so the four tracks that I really like sounded very good, if not a little bright compared to the other three Elton John titles I have. For the price, I'm glad I have it. Cannot wait to receive Tumbleweed Connection.

IMHO, Tumbleweed connection is Reg's best album. I have them ALL. I'm a mega fan and have been from the start. Although, Adam (fredblue) is probably still a bigger fan than I am.
