The mix has nothing wrong, at the time it was released Andy Jackson was still a regular visitor and took the time to explain his vision for this one: recreating a kind of horse shoe shape for the sound while respecting the limitations of the source (it's just bass and drums, plus guitar and keys, no overdubs).
However, something went wrong, really wrong either with the mastering (or maybe the master tapes handed over to Andy were damaged). There are fragments that are so distorted that are hardly listenable, like in Set the Controls and Saucerful. I played it once and it's been shelved since then. Andy never acknowledged these issues, though. Weird.
I heard that there were some issues with some of the discs in "The early years"
I purchased the partial set OBFUSC/ATION. I do find the mastering to be bright on this.
There are portions of songs that are driven to distortion:
Careful with that axe - Roger Waters scream & Gilmour's guitar.
Saucerfull & Set the controls - guitar & cymbals.

The distorted portions are short & very intense parts of the performance. Hate to say this but I think it was meant to sound this way for these songs. The bright mix just accentuates the "purposeful anarchy"
Echoes is from a mellower album and I feel it is reflected properly on this rendition.
Overall I could detect no mastering issues on my Blu-ray.
