Well, what a drag that Lemmy died today age 70, cancer. I will have a Jack and Coke in memory and listen to DVD~A Ace of Spades in blaring surround. Worked on my profile a bit and got my avatar, Odin, king of all.

Bummer! A recent Rolling Stones article about Lemmy: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/lemmy-roars-again-20140122

But Odin,:nuke er, Markie, at least we know YOU'RE alive.......and kickin'

Ace of Spades is the one DVD~A I don't have. Double bummer! But I'm spinning the DVD~A of The Best of Motorhead: DEAF FOREVER! The first track is ACE of SPADES! Glory Be....albeit in Fake Silverline surround.

Ralphie, you've got to track down the Motörhead - Ace of Spades DVD-A. It's a worthy tribute to the man, the band, and to Heavy Metal/Hard Rock music. Discrete mix and good fidelity. I wish many many more metal albums were mixed like this!

Don't rub it in Brett....I know it's one of those must have heavy metal classics. I'll find it one day [perhaps at a Church bake sale:confused:] Finally received my TUSK boxset today from the UK. That should occupy my time, tonight.

In the meantime, shall we celebrate the Return of ODIN :nuke ......AKA Heavy Metal Markie from Silicon Valley USA!

Hee HAW.

Yes, it's great to see the heavy metal god 'Odin' is getting his mojo back...even if the occasion was a somber one. I was thinking of you and the Big Apple again last night. Breakfast as Tiffany's was on. This week there have been several all day festivals honoring certain actors. Today is good ol' boy Burt Reynolds day to shine.... moon 'shine' that is. White Lightning is on right now.
HEE HAW!!

This is one that I have really wanted Audio Fidelity to reissue on Multichannel SACD, even though it's not likely to happen right now due to lack of artist and record label approval. Oh well, maybe one day I'll try and seek out the DVDA again for a good price. :)

As far as surround mixes go, Kamakiriad is right up there with Avalon. And I really like the tunes.
Well worth seeking out!

Don't laugh, Brett, but speaking of Tiffany's......every year our Casket Company (Distributor) gifts us with a Tiffany present replete with the blue Tiffany Bag.

Was always a Burt Fan. Remember when he was dating Dinah Shore (strange bedfellows, indeed). And his spread (no pun intended) in Playboy Magazine. Was Burt ever big over in Japan?

Burt was also fantastic in Boogie Nights. His comeback movie.

I still need an avatar. Any suggestions?

How about ZEUS? :smokin Wouldn't THAT be special.......Zeus TRUMPS ODIN but NOBODY TRUMPS TRUMP....the undisputed king of BLUSTER!

Cannot believe that AmazonUK only charged me $5 to ship TUSK from the UK. Came double boxed. The outside was crumpled but thankfully, the set was in primo condition.

It might be on a similar level when it comes to the surround mix, but I definitely think "Avalon" is a musically far superior album than "Kamakiriad".
This was the moment in time where I felt that Donald Fagen & Steely Dan were beginning to be more of an imitation of themselves compared to when they were back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, making truly innovative albums like "Aja", "Gaucho", and "The Nightfly".
But despite all that, I will say that "Snowbound" (on "Kamakiriad") is one of the best latter-day DF/SD songs ever written and recorded. :)

IMHO, Avalon WAS Roxy Music's finest moment.

As far as Fagen's Solo Career........(1) The Nightfly; (2) Kamakiriad and a distant third Morph the Cat. I haven't listened to his new album to really make a qualified appraisal, but I did see Steely Dan recently in concert at a relatively small venue and they can still ROCK THE HOUSE.

Burt Reynolds was super popular over here back in the 1970s & 80s. I often see his films here. I am a big fan of his, too. Next on is Burt's directorial effort "Gator" Boogie Nights was fantastic!

Your Avatar? Hmm...

How about Yoda...

Brett, that's the photo I posted over at SA~CD.net when someone asked poster Luukas (the 16 year old violinist) how he could possibly assess the quality of a SURROUND SACD through STEREO headphones.

Hmmmmm.

How about a RAM eating a PIE?

Did you yet receive from the States OLU DARA's NEIGHBORHOOD (MLP DVD~A 5.1).

Speaking of the music, I agree that Avalon is special. As I mentioned before, it could (should) be able to spend some time in the top spot of the surround poll. But, Kamakiriad is no slouch. Sure, the grooves have overtaken the melodic aspect of Fagen/SD's music, but it still is an very satisfying album. And it goes without saying that it's much more enjoyable in surround.

Too "dramatic" for your taste, Ralphie?
I thought he was pretty cool.
Well, I guess Asian traditions are starting to rub off on me. ;)

Here's another one for you...all fuzzy and warm. :ugham:
