If you're serious about surround Al, a better bet is to desperately search for original Hi label quad releases of his albums, which were on Q8 and Reels (not sure about any vinyl). That way, you get past the admittedly great but overplayed hits into the funky, gritty deeper tracks:smokin

Quad mixes are better than the DVD-A too iirc..?

I didn't know that Al Green DVD-A existed! I've always loved the Isley's and have got into more soul/funky music as I've got older. Whats the disc like? Can you still get it?

Its a kooky old DVD-A iirc (no MLP/PPCM track for the 5.1, its in uncompressed PCM kinda like a DVD-V but it is a bona fide DVD-A! :yikes ) mix and fidelity vary from song to song (not played it for ages.. but oh that voice.. its worth getting I reckon but not at those prices.. jeepers!)

I must admit that I love the "admittedly great" songs...that's the whole point of buying a greatest hits album...and I played the Al Green disc right after the Isley Brothers and it's pretty close in sound quality to that one...the only real problem is you can tell it's an older mix...a little dated...that's all..

I have held back on this disc for a year now but it keeps popping up so I just took the $50.00 plunge, ouch.

I think you'll like it, Mark. It's NOT the last word in discreteness but since Capitol Records released so few DVD~As, it should appreciate in value.

Am currently listening to 38 of Bowie's GREATEST HITS...a brilliant 2002 Capitol/EMI compilation on 2 discs. Sounds awesome, even for RBCDs! http://www.deepdiscount.com/best-of-bowie/724354193026

Do you have Bowie's Young Americans DVD~V/RBCD? Excellent DTS 5.1 SOUND....and VERY discrete!

This was a cheap DVD-A disc for many years. $10 - $15 often on the used circuit.

I love the deep track found on the Call Me album "Jesus is Waiting".

A Real Estate Tip: The Playboy Mansion's up for sale: $200M! But Hef has to live there until he dies. Needs about $20M in renovations. True Appraisal: It's really worth $100M but the extra $100M is the fact that it's the Playboy Mansion.:ugham:

BTW, Bunnies NOT included!

I have the previous edition of the Best of Bowie...it's a single CD...several of my favorite Bowie songs were mixed by Bob Clearmountain on that CD...HERE..I've had problems with Bowie discs over the years...mainly due to overly compressed discs that just were too bright...I can't remember what that CD sounds like...it's been quite a while...I didn't get the new Blackstar CD...the numbers on that one are bad HERE...now look at the vinyl version HERE...and here is the download

HOly crap - so maybe my comment about getting the LP is the best way to hear it....I have no problem doing that... Blackstar that is...

But Adam, think about all the space you'd have to store your IKEA shelves?

But I'm sure there's plenty of Rabbits on the property eating all that dead grass in Southern California!:ugham:

Haha.. forget the Ikea flatpack crap and the playboy bunnies! I'd get some Chippendale furniture and the Chippendales in to fancy up the place! :p

Yikes, Clint, really SUCKY DR scores on the Blackstar RBCD and 96/24 download. Ordered it hastily this morning (the RBCD) and it's already been shipped out. That Bowie disc you alluded to had been expanded into 2 discs (38 tracks)http://www.deepdiscount.com/best-of-bowie/724354193026 and I listened to it today Still available at Deep Discount. Did you get my memo about Deep Discount's 2 day 15% off sale (promo code COZY15) until Wednesday 12 noon CST.

Yes I'm aware of the promo code COZY15 at Deep Discount...I buy from them quite often...Elusive Disc and The Evil Empire(Music Direct)also have some discounts now 12%...the Evil Empire's threshold for free shipping is only $49 and they don't charge me tax..which happens at Deep Discount and importcds....no tax charged at Elusive Disc also...

Right now none of the "usual suspects" have the LP version of Blackstar...but most will have it in a few days...all the prices are about the same for the LP...around $30..you might save a dollar and some change at one place versus the other...for this one I'd consider Bullmoose...the price includes shipping and no tax and you build points toward future purchases...HERE

Bowie has been a wonderful artist to collect on several levels. I'm a colored vinyl collector as well as a picture disc collector. There are five prime period RCA UK picture discs that rival the sound quality original UK LP pressings, that extra thereness we so desire. Dutch yellow "Stage" is great as it the promo only US clear vinyl Ziggy Spiders Motion Picture Soundtrack which is my pick for top live Bowie, it just rocks like hell! Tons of colored vinyl and picture records!

Ok, then you consider the surround mixes, there are several major efforts with of course mixed results. But for the surround fan there are some goodies to explore. Young Americans being the title with the best notices I've read, Station to Station with the worst.

This one's not too shabby, either http://hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=1318
