EQUALLY ASTOUNDING AND DISCRETE:

I just found this blu-ray for $5 and was intrigued so I snagged it... 2 discs, and one of the most sonically interesting and wild things I've ever heard! "Song" by Uranienborg Vokalensemble w/ Elisabeth Hoite. Only partly through it; it seems to be all voice, and only in Norwegian... which matters not one iota that I can't understand any of it. Intensely musical and experimental... a fascinating, beautiful recording that sounds tremendous in surround. The dog was looking around like "W...T...F?"

Absolutely love this Eddie Kramer 5.1 mix, who hit it out of the park on his first surround mix. I was suprised when he didn't win surround mix of the year.

Interesting, Markie. I haven’t played this in a while but I wasn’t impressed with Eddie’s surround mix of my favorite album of all time and recall wishing Steven or Elliot had done it instead!

Donald Fagen ‎– Morph The Cat
DVD-A 5.1 mix

"This is another of those Elliot Scheiner demo. quality discs. Discrete surround, warm, lots of good clean bass. No over emphasized top end. Silky smooth & incredible fidelity.
The band is superb and Fagen shines. I am very impressed with the multiple guitar work as it dances around the room"

Peter Gabriel – Up SACD 5.1 mix

"Sonically this is a *very* challenging SACD that is *really* going to push and punish any system, exposing any weaknesses in the process.
The bass is incredibly deep and resonant. The edgy almost industrial-like sound has loads of high frequencies and the dynamic range is incredibly, err, dynamic!
Overall it's very heavily produced & makes for an intense listening experience"

But considering the BD~A 5.1 of Electric Ladyland costs ME roughly $7 more than AP's FOREVER DELAYED HO HUM Stereo/Mono SACD of Are You Experienced I thought Kramer did a VERY credible remix job with what he had to work with! Those EL Masters have been through the proverbial RINGER after all these years and who knows Jimi better than Eddie?

I’ll readily admit that when Eddie nailed it like he did on 1983... (A Merman I Should Turn To Be), his surround mix was spectacular. Maybe, as you say, it had more to do with what he had to work with than his skills per say.
