The original "Piano Starts Here" album has been my favorite for many years, or rather - decades. It was plagued by tape hiss, cracking, flat tuning due to stretching of the original master and so on. Every time I'd listen to it I was wondering how wonderful it must've been to hear Art Tatum live, without all these problems of an old recording. But then, I was grateful that anything was preserved at all. Those recordings were 70 years old after all.

And then Zenph studio did the impossible: they managed to extract all the information from the original recording, way beyond capabilities of today's MIDI standard, and then re-performed it at the place where the original performance took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. I had the pleasure to be there and listen to the master live! What an experience that was... one can only wish for more of the same.

So now, the old used and abused "Piano starts here" in my collection is replaced by the new recording of the true Jazz Master and I just can't get enough of it. The muddy sound of the original recording which was most offensive in fast passages in "Tiger Rag" and "Tatum-Pole Boogie", is now replaced by perfect clarity and sheer brilliance that will bring true joy of Tatum improvisations to the listener.

If you are having reservations due to technology used to produce this recording, think no more: this album is for purists, it has no traces of technology in it, it is simply Art Tatum at his best. Finally, Art Tatum gets the treatment he deserves.

Eric Clapton THE LADY IN THE BALCONY: Lockdown Sessions [Mercury Records/1 Native UHD4K Disc/1 1080p BD~V/DTS~HD MA 2.0/5.1/DOLBY ATMOS/24/48/Includes a 16 page Glossy booklet] Because of Covid, Eric's concert at Royal Albert Hall was canceled so Clapton and his band consisting of Chris Stanton, keyboards, Nathan East, Bass/vocals and Steve Gadd, drums decided to perform an intimate concert which was produced by Russ Titleman at the historic Cowdry House, a Victorian Country house built in 1875. What ensued is a lovely 77 minute concert expertly photographed and interspersed with vistas of the English countryside in extraordinarily pristine sonics. BTW, the 'lady' in the balcony refers to Eric's wife, Melia, who was the sole audience member in Cowdry House's Buck Hall with its vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows and minstrel's gallery. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION

Agreed, absolutely great audio/video on this. But for some reason, I didn't feel engaged with it. Might have been a combination of no audience, mostly acoustic playing and me not having my afternoon nap that day. Another viewing is in order.(y)

I'll second that, wonderful session (just don't bother with the 'surround' mix - just ambience)

Outstanding 5.1 mix! Has a real vintage sound.
On track 2 'Nothing At All' the drum solo swirls completely around you with a bad ass phaser effect, and the piano comes in playing something from Liszt - completely psychedelic and very cool :)
Also want to mention the awesome videos. Quite an experience!

Del Sol Quartet SCULTHORPE: The Complete String Quartets [Sono Luminus/1 PURE AUDIO BD~A 2.0 LPCM 24/192, 5.1 DTS~HD MA/7.1 DTS~HD MA 24/96/includes 2 RBCDs] Another magnificent recording from the always fascinating Sono Luminus label. Nicely DISCRETE ..... with soloist Stephen Kent on the indigenous Australian instrument, the Didjeridu!

I don't usually indulge in Classical/Symphonic such as this SACD of "Lost Horizon" but like humprof pointed out , I just had to hear the unreleased mix of The Carrot , better known as "THE THING" (from another planet)🥕
This takes me back to when I first saw the movie. It was extra spooky seeing it at night during the middle of Winter.

FIZZY, in my [humble] opinion the ENTIRE Dutton~Vocalion Charles Gerhardt film series is SPECTACULAR. Not only is it discrete, brilliantly recorded and performed, but represents some of the most astounding canon in the history of film music ..... and in that capacity it is CLASSIC ... not classical!
