Awesome, like it slightly better than Hypnotic Eye. Rock, blues, ballads, even a reggae tune, something for everyone ;) Band is pretty tight, no demos were cut, they stood in a circle facing each other and played while recording. I find it a "grower", the more I listen the more I like it. Audio is excellent, lots of surround use but instruments aren't all that discrete, IMO.

ji eff in the unknown 5.1 flac, that's the sh... stuff. Surround is solid discrete and engaging. The low end, truly excellent. The room effect on les trepasses is so fine.

I don't know if the flac downloads have the surround mix. its not clear to me, even from a recent visit to the webpage, wavelength. After a listen to the actual disc, I bought another because of the overall presentation. Might be a one off but I hope not.

So you are talking about this:

Is the flac file quad or do you have to buy the dvd to get the quad mix?

I really doubt the flac is in quad... I contacted bandcamp some time ago and asked if there was a possibility to distribute 5.1 downloads through their outlet; they said their platform isn't structured for this, but since there's room for bonus material in the zip files they send, I could include 300mb of surround material per album... That's not even funny :/

Hunter as a Horse - 2016 - The Two Magics, Vol. 1

*playing this in PLII and it's sooooo good :music

- I know this probably belongs in the "fake surround" section, but it's just so lonely... all tucked away down there :lookaround

A quick preview of the new "Aqualung" (40th Anniversary Adapted Edition) before work.
So far I'm not really hearing that drastic of a difference between this edition and the 2011 edition. Only main thing I'm noticing is that this version sounds slightly 'duller' than the other one, without Peter Mew's EQ additions, but so far, I don't notice that much of a difference in dynamic processing and level changes between channels, but I plan to do a comprehensive study of the two editions so I can really determine which one's better.
One thing I will say is that I got use to looking at a high-def Blu-Ray, so looking at a standard def DVD isn't as pleasant… :(
Had a brief listen too. I agree on the overall "duller" presentation and the very blurry picture. I was also shocked when the guitar solo on the title track was mainly coming from the rear channels, since I remember it coming mainly from the center channel on the bluray. Strange indeed, since it should be the same mix... I have to do a proper comparison.

Love the two new extra tracks in surround - Wond'ering Loud, Again and Up the Pool ("long" version). These two alone makes it worth the money for me to "double" buy this new version, the latter is killer in surround.

Just finished a thorough listen-through to both the unmastered and mastered 5.1 mixes of "Aqualung". (More on that in the Jethro Tull thread…)

But now I'm shuffling some Elliot Scheiner 5.1 mixes on a USB stick. Love the variety! :)

Tonite,

Peter Gabriel -"Secret World live" love when "Steam" circles the speakers as a synth-locomotive.
