His does this one sound compared to their two DVD-As, EB?

I did not A/B, but I feel it stacks up. Very enjoyable. DD 5.1 didn't bother me a smidge. Sound is luscious and clear. VERY discrete mix, just like the others.
Video extras are cool, but still can't fathom why they'd choose DD. I wonder if they really ran in to a space issue or if it was licensing or something dumb like that.

afaik there's one more Gordon Goodwin 5.1; "Act Your Age".. I just googled it to refresh the grey cells and it was produced by Lee Ritenour with some stellar guest artists including Chick Corea (and Grammy nominated to boot) but I don't remember a solitary thing about it musically or mixwise! Not usually a great sign, though I may have been in the wrong frame of mind for that kinda muzak at the time .. pretty sure it's lossy/Dullby Dirgeitall too.. I'll give it a spin this morning and report back :)

I've got XXL, Act Your Age and The Phat Pack, and I love them all. Swingin' For The Fences is on order, Amazon UK has it for around £5 :). As far as sound goes, Act Your Age and The Phat Pack are just Dolby Digital 5.1, but the surround is still pretty good and discrete. I reckon they're all worth getting.

Giving Act Your Age 5.1 a spin now, better mix than I (couldn't) remember.. I'm either mellowing with age or its early onset dementia.. ..content is more interesting than I (couldn't) remember, there's jazzy big band interpretations of Earth Wind & Flatulence, Herbie Hungcock, Return To Whenever, all the good stuff baby

Oh yeah and the surround mix is by Paul "The Klingon" Klingberg, so if you're a fan of his approach to surround music mixing, I guess you'll enjoy more of the same here, it's got it's discrete moments back there but strikes me as a fairly front heavy mix, more skewed to the front than I (can't) remember but imagine the first couple of Gordon Goodwink 5.1's were/are. Coffee time! :p

If I'm not mistaken, this disc was mixed by John Merchant, the guy who taught me how to mix.
He's also the reason Barry Gibb came to MTSU a few years ago for an interview and acoustic performance which I was privy to attend.
A great night!

I don't recall how discrete it sounds honestly...I just love the disc/music.

Fantastic songs - great show. The rears come to life on only a couple of songs - the song where Celine sings there is some action.

And the "booms" on Tragedy :)

It seems that "pre-taped" effects/music on some concert dvd/bds often are discrete in the rears - when the rest of the show are front only. I have heard this on a few Queen concerts.
