Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - The Lyre of Orpheus (DVD-V) 48/24 DTS

If you're not familiar with Nick Cave's music, I invite you to try these tracks from this album. Easy Money, Carry Me and O Children. Absolutely beautiful music! If you're a fan of albums that have a huge live ensemble sound, warm and organic like Van Morrison's The Healing Game, then this will please you. Some of his noisier material might please a fan of the later period Tom Waits, but his catalog from 1992's Henry's Dream up until today is nothing short of breathtaking.

Thanks for the recommendation, Lute. I had been looking for 'upgrades' on the Brahms Symphonies & Piano Concertos (it's startling how thin and harsh many of my early digitally-recorded CDs sound today!). Have you heard this other PentaTone cycle?:

The SACDs of Masur 1970s Quad recordings are worth having...especially if you can find a good deal on this set. As with his Beethoven, Masur gives a more traditional reading of Brahms's symphonies. If you like his Beethoven Quad recordings, you'll like his Brahms, too. The Quad recordings aren't aggressively discrete like TACET's surround recordings, but the rear channels provide an immersive surround experience. They can be recommended for those interested in vintage Quad recordings. But, they show their age a little, so I would still highly recommend PentaTone's SACDs with Janowski. The fidelity of these modern DSD multichannel recordings is better. It offers fuller, richer sound. Not only are the rear channels used effectively to provide an immersive mix, but the center channel is used very well to create an open, detailed and impressive soundstage.

It's good to have variety. No cycle of Brahms's (or anyone else's) symphonies is perfect. Fortunately, there is also another good MCH set from Avie with the WDR Sinfonie-orchester Köln conducted by Semyon Bychkov.

Started this afternoon's surround listening session by revisiting "Chicago IX: Chicago's Greatest Hits" (4.0 DTS-HD MA Blu-Ray)
It's still just as good as when I first heard it a few days ago!

Now finishing up "Some Great Reward" by Depeche Mode (5.1 DTS DVD)

:)

I can't wait to hear that Chicago box.

My favourite cuts off that Depeche Mode album are Something To Do, Master And Servant & Blasphemous Rumours. Love that band!

I've just finished Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde and I'm changing the mood with this one which sounds lovely. The Eric Carmen track is always nice to hear as done by Rachmaninov. ;)

Excellent - thanks very much!

Simon, I'm with you all the way on the wonderful Nick Cave 5.1 DTS remasters. I was never even a fan until I started snatching up these incredible 'reincarnations.' Great performances, incredibly diverse styles throughout ALL his albums and the remixes are stunning and very discrete. TWO VERY BIG (y)(y) and a pinky!

It's literally an album I put on to check if any calibration was successful and to make final tweaks.

I can see that. It's a go to disc for me if someone is here and hasn't heard an SACD before. I remember when I got my Oppo player a few years ago and wanted to start a small SACD collection, my first order (due to references from forum members at a couple of sites) was this one and Gaucho. :music

My very first DTS CD purchase was Steely Dan-Gaucho.

Is it OK to post about playing a Quad LP in this thread?

I took a big chance spending so much on this LP, but I love the songs and the mix so much that it was worth every penny.

Marvin, Welch & Farrar - Second Opinion

Well I certainly hope so, Simon! :p

...I spent most of the last 6 months of 2015 and the first few months of this year posting virtually nothing but SQ LPs in this here QQ "Listening to Now (In Surround) - Volume 2" and I haven't been chucked off.. yet! :D

...moving right along (a wee amount of George goes a long way) David Gilmour - Remember That Night BD 5.1...so nice to hear Richard Wright in this one. I miss what he and David did together...
