You have inspired me to listen to this disc and it is absolutely fabulous. I then listened to the same forces doing the Mahler 7 (SACD) and it is also terrific. Although I bought the Bernstein Mahler 6 and 9 SACD, for some reason I have never got around to listening to it. It is next on my list (followed by the Mahler 4 (SACD and then the Mahler 2 (SACD) and I can only hope that it equals the other two; I imagine that they both do. I don't have Lenny's Mahler 1 (SACD) (maybe I should get it?) or 8 (SACD) (not my favourite Mahler symphony) and his New York Maher 5 is not very highly regarded.

Really glad to hear it! Yes, these Bernstein 3-ch (mixed to 5.0) SACDs are superb! Actually, I also got sidetracked with other recordings and need to start collecting these again to fill in some gaps.

We've been discussing symphonies (Beethoven, Mahler...) quite a bit recently. Anyone looking for solid performances of the 4 symphonies of Brahms should try the PentaTone's SACDs of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under the direction Marek Janowski (conductor). The DSD MCH recordings sound fantastic! I would start with Brahms - Symphony no.4. It also includes a selection of his popular Hungarian Dances.

bArtMan - Los Gigantes (BRA)
by the way, some months ago Thorsten (i.e. bArtMan) sent me a second copy of this, beacause the first one had flaws (which I hadn't noticed at all). Excellent service I'd say.

Kuniko - Cantus (SACD)

Unique and beautiful music which has been wonderfully recorded and released by Linn Records.

A wee change of mood. ;)

The Beatles - Love (DVD-A)

I hated the Digipak so I bought the CD version, changed the tray for a two disc one and took the booklet from the Digipak. Voilà!

Haha - nice. Now is in a major misfortune (of course ;)) Simon goes missing and never to be found His family/friends find his music treasures...only to toss the Love CD case, while keeping the treasured Love DVD-Audio case...unknowingly keeping the wrong one... :violin

LOL! No fear, I threw away the other one so this is the only one that'll be found in my collection. :D

Thanks for the recommendation, Lute. I had been looking for 'upgrades' on the Brahms Symphonies & Piano Concertos (it's startling how thin and harsh many of my early digitally-recorded CDs sound today!). Have you heard this other PentaTone cycle?:

I love what Pentatone has been doing and I find their discs a great value for the price and content.

Back to an old favourite of mine. To my ears, the DTS disc is more pleasant and much warmer sounding than the SACD which has its higher resolution marred by noise reduction and wonky EQ choices. I think DTS did a fabulous job here. I haven't heard the Seventh Sojourn DTS so I wonder if the result was the same.
