An Evening with Leopold Stokowski (SACD)

Music of Bach, Cesti, Handel, Ockeghem, Palestrina, Purcell, Tchaikovsky

Brussels Philharmonic
Richard Egarr (conductor)

Beautiful performances of orchestrations by Leopold Stokowski. Some are well known works, such as Bach's Toccata & Fugue in D minor. Others are less often heard (but no less impressive) works from the Renaissance. The recording has a wonderfully deep soundstage.

Wow! The music is sublime! I've listened to soundclips on iTunes and I've placed my order straightaway. Lute, in the last year you've made me discover so much beautiful music. Your contribution to this already rich environment is greatly appreciated. Domo arigato! :)

Dou itashimashite! I'm really happy to hear you're getting more into classical music, Simon. And thank YOU for helping to enrich my listening experience with your enthusiasm and knowledge of music. I always look forward to reading your posts.

Don't be afraid to turn up the volume on the Stokowski SACD. It really opens up at a higher volume setting. Enjoy! :brew

*that thing played to death at my parent's place back in '98-99

I bet the SACD sounds even more "angelic" than the regular CD.. ..no, I'm not taking one for the team so we can find out! :D

Ha! Someone watched the film What about Bob? it seems... or perhaps the joke is simply widespread. ;)

Listen-athon tonight wifes out !!!
Catching up on some of the recent releases starting with Anthony Phillips 1984 having listened to the CDs I have an idea what to expect but prelude is a great start lots happening and the music is great so different from the previous discs, yet it still sounds like Anthony Phillips.

Let's follow that up with Ghost Community and the 5.1 download of cycle of life.
Nice mix so far good use of rear speakers and spread on instruments

Foreigner 4, DVD A 5.1 Advanced Resolution. 75.5 decibels. Awesome, again. I love DVD A's. They have such a raw sound that no new releases in surround, Audio Fidelity (soft rock), Acoustic Sounds ( they actually are OK with heavy stuff) or even the very few BD-A's can match. I am the boss of guitar rock and I am sick of all this, lets get it on. You people who release SACD in stereo or mch, lets get heavy and make some real money.
Lute, I miss you. I almost went back to HRAudio.net just because QQ can talk about the same thing over and over and it bores me.

Simple Minds, Once Upon A Time, DVD-A, DVD Audio (not DTS) surround 5.1. Front loaded with slightly discrete rears. One of the top 5 most expensive, out of print DVD-A's.

Back to Nickel Creek self titled, heard something that reminded me of The Lighthouse's Tale today. I got this SACD recently and keep going back to it. Strings are excellent and with unusually fine room filling vocals.
