The Ivan Fischer recordings on Channel Classics are just excellent. For a look inside the recording process of these SACDs and DSD Downloads, check this excellent video on Vimeo. Very educational!

Enjoyed the video. Thanks, Brian!

I highly recommend all of Fischer's recordings with Channel Classics. His Mahler symphonies are also wonderful. And his Rossini overtures is a favorite of mine.

View attachment 18020This one sure gets mixed reviews in the poll thread. I find it to have a pleasant openness with good definition of instruments. The mix is subtle at times but the surrounds are used frequently for emphasis while also lightly ambient in the fronts. I'm good with the content so leaning towards a strong eight.

I'd vote for a reissue of this title and "Nothing Like the Sun" on HFPA Blu-Ray at full high-resolution! :)

Generally, the performances on TACET are solid. Even though their Beethoven cycle is performed by a lesser known orchestra, the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra under Wojciech Rajski gives strong and beautiful accounts of the symphonies. Most fans of TACET's immersive sound have been relieved and satisfied that we weren't being surrounded by a bunch of c**p. ;)

But, the performance and one's personal preferences play a big part in whether one likes a recording or not. I hope you aren't disappointed.

Thank you so much! I am always on the look out for electronic music in surround!

I am just about to order it. But... Are there 2 versions of the same recording. Maybe one is a later reissue?

Do you know if it matters which one I choose? I mean they are both Mch SACDs, right?

Pffeew, good question. I ordered it from Amazon.de, I didn't see another version :couch

I went ahead and ordered the newer version. It was slightly cheaper and there was only one left. Who knows what that means!? LOL! There seem to be several copies of the older version available, so I can always try one of those if... :nuke

Thanks again for thinking of me, Jan!
I'm psyched for more electronic submersion.

I just hope you like it :couch but I'm pretty shure you will.

If you like it, I am sure I'll be groovin on it, too. I like the stuff you post here.

Have you heard Amon Tomin - Chaos Theory DVDA?

I just picked this up yesterday. It's a trip...very aggressive surround mix. I still don't know what the heck this is. Music to Splinter Cell... a video game?? Maybe Adam would know.

Anyway... I love it! :music

Oh yes its pretty cool that one, I posted about it here a couple of years ago (I think everybody was out at the time, or just nobody was interested!) it's an Xbox game soundtrack reworked into 5.1 yes :)

Thanks, Adam! I am still kind of stunned at the quality of music that video games have these days. WoW! "We've come a long way, Baby!" keeps bouncing around in my head. :bounce

You're right, Jan. This might be only a once-in-a-while type of disc, but its surround mix puts many other surround albums to shame. And that drumming!? Geez! Pretty darn good!

I don't mean to jump around so much, but here we go. hehehe... With all the talk about TACET this and TACET that ;), I feel I've shamefully neglected 2L's wonderful recordings, which are easily the equal of TACET's discrete mixes.

This is a delightful program of rustic, folksy music from Norway in the 18th century. It reminds me of Celtic folk music from Ireland... with a touch of baroque elegance. Excellent immersive surround sound!

Staying with Norwegian folk style (albeit with a string orchestra :violin), here is another fabulous 2L recording with wrap-around immersive surround sound.

Many listeners will be familiar with the famous opening orchestral piece, Grieg's Suite "From Holberg's Time". It, along with the rest of the program, is beautifully performed and recorded. Very Highly Recommended!

For anyone interested, here's a more detailed review... http://www.blu-raydefinition.com/mu...olk-style-pure-audio-blu-ray-sacd-review.html

It's a good one when driving at night.

Don't think that would be possible....Gordie was a big digital fan and I'm almost positive that this was recorded at 16/44...There's something about the surround mix that somehow doesn't gel with me..the NLTS is better...
