Crowded House - Self-Titled (DualDisc)

Jeff Beck - Live in Tokyo

Virtually no surround at all, but at least they didn't add reverb/delay to the surrounds. As much as I love hearing the back speakers used to good effect, I'd much rather have a 'front loaded' sound imaging than the terrible reverb/delay in the rears. I really hate added reverb in the surrounds. Surround on this is almost non-existent, but the show is amazing.

"Crowded House"
A favorite, reminds me of someone every time I listen. Well, I buggered that up but that's the way it goes.

Although not as "profound" as some of his other discs.

Stereotomy .APP.

and there is a quad mix on DVDA somewhere's out there for those interested-unofficial, though.

I think Tab did a conversion of this album, which allegedly was recorded with UHJ or Ambisonic, or something like that. I don't remember all of these details anymore. Age you know. :violin

Rush - Fly By Night.

I think it rocks, hell no it's not discrete, but it's a great sounding wall of rock. My go to listen for this title. :)

I said it before and I will say it again NOT MUCH YOU CAN DO WITH A GTR, A BASS , A VOICE AND A DRUMSET!!!!!

I can't stop listening to a couple of tracks from that Ray Conniff twofer on Dutton Vocalion.

The Cat's In The Cradle - and even more to Sundown.

Earlier today I put on Illuminations - it struck me as really bizarre. It would be an absolute "no way" in stereo or mono, but in quad it almost works. I didn't hear all of it as I dozed off before the end.

I have been trying to listen to at least 1 disc a day when I get home from work and am the only one home. I usually go back to things I have not listened to for awhile. On the weekend or when people stop over I play things they know or I want to hear so the after work discs are things I want to put on and listen to uninterrupted and usually loud. My weekday rule is once they start they have to finish. Today I grabbed the Keane sacd out of the rack. I also felt the need for some Elvis Costello so I grabbed North. I play the Keane disc fairly often but usually for only a couple of songs. I did not remember how good this entire disc is. The song She Has No Time made me go back and listen to it for a second time after the disc was over. It made me wish that Radiohead had thrown us a bone and given us a surround mix of OK Computer. The Elvis Costello North disc made me realize how good this album SOUNDED. There are a lot of tracks where there is not much going on in the rears, but the overall sound was fantastic. When there were strings on a song it was very active in the rears. It was a very good listening day. Scott

Santana/Coltrane's ILLUMINATIONS is very much a product of its time: the spiritual side of Santana. IMO, very reminiscent of Santana's wonderful collaboration with John McLaughlin [Love, Devotion and Surrender: available as a Stereo SACD from MoFi]. http://hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=7592

Give it a chance. It may grow on you. Must sound spectacular in surround!
