Super cool album. Never heard this before - then when the strings kicks in in the rears in the middle of the first song - I just: Beck - Sea Change - WHAT?? No doubt where Beck found the inspiration for those awesome strings.

The center channel are very loud, Merde! - I lowered it by 6 dB, and it sounds a lot better.

Is this a 5.1 BDA disc?

I really like the SACD mix of 461 Ocean. I wonder if it's the same 5.1 mix as the BD?

Yes, I agree with Ryan. The E.S. mix of 461 is very good, typical of Elliot.

But I also like the two Quad mixes supplied with 461 and There's One.... which are credited to Tom Dowd and Carl Richardson.
Well worth having I, think.

Too bad "E.C. WAS HERE "doesn't include a quad version as originally advertised . If it exists , I would love to see it issued. :D

I agree.

Too bad he gets such negative reviews . I like Rush's Signals, and yes it could be a little better surroundwise, but something is always better than no surround at all.

With regards to Signals, I would rather have gotten no surround at all (at least we might have a chance at a better mix in the future!). Sorry, but I really can't stand that mix. The Rush surround mixes mostly make me depressed (the exceptions are "A Farewell To Kings", "Moving Pictures", and the song "By-tor and the Snowdog" off Fly By Night. At least Permanent Waves is still available to get a good surround mix someday.

And Hemispheres!

And Hemispheres!

Occasionally, albums will get more than one MC mix. Maybe an already-done Rush album will get a little more love someday. It's a lot to hope for, but that would be cool.
IMO, no existing Rush multichannel mix is all that great. Given all the layering going on with Rush records, they seem to be suitable for highly discrete mixes.

I had a hankering for something a bit old, so I went back to the oldest music composed with surround effects in mind that I know of - Gabrieli's church music from the 1500s, employing multiple choirs in different parts of the cathedral. Deutsche Grammophon recorded this in the mid-1990s, at 24-bit but CD sampling rate, but the remix into 5.1 is spectacular and surprisingly aggressive at times.

The original Elliot Scheiner version.

Edit: Just read this on wiki: 'Between 1960 and 1964, 22 of his songs placed on the Billboard Top 40' :yikes

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here - BD LPCM 4.0
I always thought this album was boring in stereo. In hi-res quad there is enough going on that I missed before, that it holds my interest throughout. :smokin

One of my best friends in high school (almost 30 years ago) had a car stereo system that he entered in local 'Crank It Up' competitions with, and one of his 'show off tracks' was the very beginning of 'Welcome to the Machine'. Some of the deep bass on that track is amazing. Also, I love James Guthrie's surround mixes for this and Dark Side. Also, also: You thought 'Wish You Were Here' was boring?! :yikes :p
