Ah. What some do is run 5.1 or 7.1, etc. off their AVR, then a separate amp or two for the height speakers.
I have Polk A9s with the CSiA6 centre up front which are all very power hungry (200w + per channel required to do them justice) so the amp runs them, I was planning on the new receiver doing the surround/heights, but now that I think of it, I haven’t investigated what or where I’ll put new speakers.

My heights are wall-mounted, almost ceiling height, right above FL/FR SL/SR.

The Blasters - Live Going Home (DTS DVD)
blasters.jpg

Saw an amazing show at Daryl's House last night ( Daryl Hall's club in Pawling, NY) - headline act - Psychobilly legends The Reverend Horton Heat, supported by Junior Brown (and his Guitsteel guitar) and a band that I haven't thought about for years, The Blasters. Brothers Dave and Phil Alvin's band out of California was a true American roots rock band. Starting out in the late Seventies they had a few minor hit songs - "Marie, Marie" and "Border Radio." Flash forward 40 years, a near fatal accident and the typical brother/family dramas, they continue to put out some serious rocknroll. Dave is out on his own, but brother Phil is defying death and despite his frail appearance his still making some ferocious music. Got home late last night and pulled this live disc out. Even though the back label states DVD Audio, it is DVD DTS only - not to worry its not particularly discrete but is still a worthy document of a great roadhouse rock band knocking it out of the park. There is a DVD Video version of this that I have not seen - but I hope to rectify that shortly!
