Or they decide not to bother doing a 5.1 mix next time... I always worry that complaints can go either way. How would you rate the mix with the rears cranked?

That thought crossed my mind as well.

The Music and fidelity is really good
The mix level is a cock up
The mix itself, when it's sorted, is pretty good
I would give the mix an 8.4

We didn't get the dreaded Hemisphere mix mess thank goodness.

Phenomenal DVD-A. The piano in "China Grove" that's so loud and clear in the rears is potted way down on all other versions.

I'm looking forward to renewed discussion of this album when the Doobies Quadio set comes out. The quad mix is also excellent.
One I regretfully missed when it was still available. I'll have to be saved by the Quadio set!!!

XTC - Skylarking; Bluray LPCM 5.1
I've been listening to music a long, long time and had never heard XTC's music until the SW remixes. Have grown to really appreciate the witty and brilliant Brit Pop on display here. Doesn't hurt that Steven's mix is fantastic in every way or the fact that these XTC releases feature the best bang for buck value in the surround market. Keep 'em coming, please!!!

This one just never seemed to 'pop' in surround for me. Could have been fantastic given the largely acoustic instrumentation involved.

Totally agree with you on this one.

Hey 56Kid I can check out my over supply vault:LOL: for an extra DVD-A of "The Captain and Me" if your interested - not sure though, would have to do some digging?

I'm looking forward to the Doobies Quadio set. It will be interesting to compare the 5.1 to the Quad mix especially given the 5.1 mix is excellent. :51QQ

I recently updated my post in the poll thread that mentions some differences on "China Grove". I may do an in-depth comparison thread at some point in the future (hopefully the set will have materialized by then) as it's really a toss-up which one I like better.

tbh i prefer the 5.1.. the Quad's great, excellent even.. but that DVD-A, that's Scheiner magic in them there pits and peaks (or however they get that new-fangled Quadramaphenomic muzak on a DVD!) 😜
