IMO, Mike, a gorgeous album. On my system it sounds like he's right in the room ...... absolutely stunning recording and 5.1 mix!

after a series of newly purchased 5.1 tryout washouts (mostly underwhelming surround anyway), my 4 ears need a 4 channel treat with plenty of creamy surround goodness! nom nom nom nom nom!

tbh i think its a pretty good CD-4 pressing, my copy's beat up like you wouldn't believe and it only splats up when the voices zoom all around the room at the end of Side 1 ("you'll be a blackbyrd.. go hi > hi > hi < hi < hi..!!" love love love it!!
oh and there was a Japanese CD-4 pressing which is bound to be 'da bollox' maybe keep an eye out for that!

ps. i just foooooookin' love the album.. and the Quad mix is outrageous(ly good)!! "no words can express the happiness..."

Just had my first listen to The Doobie Brothers The Captain and Me DVD A with a sweet chilli chicken pizza and an Australian Shiraz which I picked up on Ebay for £23 (that didn't include the pizza and wine).
All I can say is please Foraging Rhino can we have the rumoured Quadio box set now!!!

Is the MC mix as good as was originally reported? Another one I regretfully missed on.

I really ought to spin this one again....if I recall correctly the lead vocals on “Walking In Rhythm” are isolated in the rears.

Love the album, but I thought the surround mix was hit-or-miss: some tracks sound mostly ambient (“Oriental Melody”, “Starry Night”), others have all kinds of panning and swirling effects (“Belly Dancer”), and others are full-on discrete (“You Saved My Life” has a different guitar track in each corner). Worth tracking down, IMO, but not for too much.

that sounds about right! its not a set and forget mix for sure, it has a lot of cool panning and playful positioning of stuff, really nice.

now stuck into Quincy Jones' "You've Got It Bad Girl" CD-4.. funky as can be!
