"Roger Waters The Wall" Double Blu-Ray just arrived here about an hour ago.
It's this version: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0186O9KSO

Probably the best version to get if you want something more than just Blu-Ray discs in an amaray case. There's a nice booklet included with pictures from the live concert and film scenes, plus some cards with additional stills.
I'm not really fit to comment on the sound mix or fidelity just cause my system is only 5.1, not 7.1 or Atmos, so I don't know exactly what I'm hearing or not hearing, but the picture quality is outstanding.
I'm going to watch the entire film later tonight, so I'll be able to provide better comments on the interweaving of the road trip scenes with the concert, but so far based on what I have previewed it's not over done at all. :)

For Blue.monk, Neil Palfreymen, GOS, Clint and anyone interested in classical symphonies...

This Bluray box set of Mahler's symphony nos. 1-7 conducted by Claudio Abbado should be on your shortlist. Some of the best performances of these works available (and with immersive surround sound to boot!!!)

Roger Waters - The Wall

I've gone through both blu rays that came with this package, here's my take: The concert itself is very well done. Video is mostly excellent (shot with the Red One camera I believe) and with the audio being Dolby Atmos, I listened in 7.1 Dolby TrueHD (7.2 at my house). I think this is only the 3rd concert i have in 7.1. I'm not sure how discrete the music is in the surrounds, but the sound effects are certainly set up for 7.1, very nice. The LFE is off the charts good. So no complaints with the audio/video. Having said that, the constant listening to Roger between songs as he drives around I found very annoying and distracts from the concert heavily. The last 3 of 4 blu ray concerts I purchased are like this, including Mannheim Steamroller and Lenny Kravitz. I don't mind the interviews etc, but I'd rather they be an entity unto themselves on a separate part of the disc. It really disrupts any flow the concerts have, IMO. Because of that, these will not be in a regular rotation at my place. As much as I enjoyed the music on The Wall, at well over 2 hours I was glad when it ended. YMMV, as always :) A word about the 2nd BRD, the whole thing is in DD stereo only....which includes the 2 songs with David Gilmour at the O2, unfortunately.

Hmm, I've never been a big fan of Mahler but it's been years since I've heard any of the symphonies. I'll have to revisit them before biting on this.

I noticed a similarly packaged Beethoven set also conducted by Abbado. Have you seen/heard it?

BTW, Lute, I have three Pentatone titles on order. :)

Great recommendation, thanks! I just consulted with a friend who's a big Mahler fan and although he does't do surround he agrees that they're wonderful versions.

"Once Upon A Time" by Simple Minds.
Nice to see that they got the audio options right on the back of the artwork this time. Doing my first full listen-through to the surround mix right now and will have more to say on it in a little while in the poll thread for this title.
(BTW I have been informed that Neil Wilkes did author this Blu-Ray disc, which makes sense as it's got his typical audio options: LPCM Stereo, DTS-HD MA 5.1, and LPCM 5.1 Surround, no Dolby TrueHD. He's just not credited in the booklet.)

Abbado's Beethoven cycle is good. These recordings were originally released on DVD. Unfortunately, the new Bluray version doesn't offer the same Hirez audio & video quality as the Mahler Bluray, but it's still worth getting, especially for fans of Beethoven's symphonies.

Now, performance-wise... Abbado's Mahler cycle is on another level...completely! It's very special. He was one of those unique conductors who had a deep insight into Mahler's world. His death last year was sad news indeed. Fortunately, his performances with the wonderful Lucerne Festival Orchestra are available in Hirez audio & video.

I understand your feelings about Mahler. Music is a personal thing. Not every piece of music is for everyone. But, Mahler's symphonies are some of the most gorgeous orchestral music ever written. It might take a while to appreciate them, but they are well worth the effort.

Abbado's recording of Mahler's 9th is equally impressive...

Picked up The Who - Live in Hyde Park Blu-Ray + 2 CDs at Barnes & Noble today.
Definitely not an immersive surround experience by any means, but the performance seems to be pretty good so far, and at least it actually has a surround mix, unlike the Jeff Lynne's ELO Live in Hyde Park Blu-Ray...

I just picked up Andrea bocelli concert in Central park on blu ray.. It's DTS fantastic sound. Some discrete at times but mostly front speakers. Absolutely stunning concert visually and sound wise..

Interesting. I love Steven Wilson's music but admit there are times when it gets a little heavy for me. It takes several listens before I get immersed in his music. Now he is my go-to guy almost on a daily basis. I have tickets to an upcoming concert and I am taking my 26 year old daughter whose favourite singer is Taylor Swift. It should be interesting. I have given her a bunch of steven wilson to put on her ipod and have been begging her to listen to it a lot. But she won't. And she will hate the concert. I just know it.

Interesting...basically all of his stuff sounds the same to me...PT stuff and solo stuf (not counting the rest of the collaborations, which ARE a bit different...and let's not even go into the "The day before you came" ABBA cover he did that's in the Kscope sampler no. 6)..
Some mellow stuff, with harmonies fading down to almost nothing and then.... WHAM HUGE WALL OF SOUND!!!!..solos...then again down in dynamics
it's brilliantly executed too...

I personally think that his best was "The Raven".. a bit farther away from his style, and I'm sure it was because of MR Parson's presence....

I also find the artwork EXTREMELY depressing and overly dark..well, it matches the music but it borders on the "amateurish"....too many scribbled lines and no real "artful" composition...
but then , I'm basically nobody and he is a star and a great artist and person..at least I think I'm a nice person and a bit talented...

Yesterday I watched Andrea bocelli an evening in Central park. Great concert great visuals and audio..

In '82 (?), I saw/listened to Weather Report at Poplar Creek (RIP) in Hoffman Estates, IL. Papa Joe Zawinul comes to the mike and says, "now, we're going to have Jaco do his thing." Jaco sits atop this big, hunking amp and proceeds to play Purple Haze solo on his bass. Priceless!

I'll try to report back on the Blu-Ray once I've viewed it. It was a wonderful Christmas. It will take me weeks to view/hear the entire haul.

RIP Jaco.

Oh hell yes - I'm very curious about the Jaco disc....he WAS and still is the man.

Just based on that picture of Jaco you posted....I think Billy Bob Thornton should do a movie version of the life of Jaco and play him...we know he could easily look like him...and I bet he could get all the crazed antics down.....what you think?
