Some older devices just can’t read large drives.
Given that the OPPO BDP-93 was launched way back in 2010, the maximum supported HDD size is 2TB and it will need to be formatted to NTFS...
We own a bdp 93, bdp 103 and the udp 203. Thumb drives work on all of them, but our 2 TB 'My Passport' hard drive will NOT on the bdp 93. Not sure why, Possibly too large for content on that particular player.?Hey peoples, I am having similar issue with a new to me Oppo 93. It sees a PNY 512GB thumb drive MBP/NTFS as long as it's inserted after powering up the unit and plays media fine.
However, no luck with some WD drives, a 2TB and a 4TB with 2 equal partitions. I purchased a "caddy" to connect over USB to the Oppo and it doesn't recognize the hard drives (also MBP/NTFS) connecting to the USB port (though my Samsung F8500 monitor sees the drive just fine).
Perhaps throwing good money after bad, I got a second caddy and an ESATA M to M cable. The caddy seems connected fine to the Oppo over the USB, it has a slot in the front that takes SDRAM cards, and sees one of those. No luck with the hard drive though. To be clear the caddies work fine with my TV and PC. Focussing on the 2TB drive because I want to rule out issue with multiple partition. 2GB disc is MBR/NTFS and Disk Management Win 10 tool says it's Healthy (see image below).
Any suggestions to make this work?
Don't own a Passport, but I have a 2TB WD Element that works on the BDP-93.We own a bdp 93, bdp 103 and the udp 203. Thumb drives work on all of them, but our 2 TB 'My Passport' hard drive will NOT on the bdp 93. Not sure why, Possibly too large for content on that particular player.?
Could it be due to the type of Formatting used on the HDD?We own a bdp 93, bdp 103 and the udp 203. Thumb drives work on all of them, but our 2 TB 'My Passport' hard drive will NOT on the bdp 93. Not sure why, Possibly too large for content on that particular player.?
Yes, but Oppo 93 should work with up to 2TB partitions...see the complete thread for details...Some older devices just can’t read large drives.
MBR/NTFS is what's recommended and what I've got on the drives that won't be recognized...Could it be due to the type of Formatting used on the HDD?
FWIW, I’ve found that my 105 does not recognize DSD or DXF files on its network connection, but it does on the USB connection.....yeah it's weird. Up to 2TB drives should work. Got to realize the 93 came out in ...what? 2011/2012?
I've noticed that even in modern pc's, some portable drives don't work as expected. (my experience with backup programs)
Having said all that, I've never found a need to patch a HDD into my disc players, especially since HDMI and network capabilities on devices, and pc's/NAS.
I know people that do setup storage for their disc players, and that's A OK with me. If'n it was me and the player has network capabilities, I would probably plug a drive into the router.
I didn't realize that, or forgot. I seldom play either one. Not sure if my Jailbroke 103 will or not....probably not I'm guessing as that probably was not a format it would normally understand.FWIW, I’ve found that my 105 does not recognize DSD or DXF files on its network connection, but it does on the USB connection.
I’ve downloaded a handful of DSD and DXF files. I haven’t tried burning them to a disc, but they play fine through the USB port, so there’s no need to.I didn't realize that, or forgot. It will play SACD .iso files, though, even my self authored ones.
I guess that explains why my BDP-93 and 83 won't play the flash drives I make on my computer from downloads. You are right 100%, got an OPPO BDP-93 and works only with 2TB Max, formatted to NTFS
