Well, it's been a long four years... and worth the wait.

I think that this might be the most interesting of the surround mixes because of course, there was no prior quad mix or status quo (mind you, the same goes for Meddle – that's an awesome 5.1 listen).

I love the way it starts flat, with POTW in stereo, before opening up into 5.1 goodness (or, let's be honest, 4.1 given the lack of signal in the centre channel).

It's really got a lot of room to breathe – new details and nuances appear every few minutes. And I LOVE what's been done with the vocoder section; Floyd has never sounded this prog before.

Fantastic stuff.

I would like to add, the tv screen display of the factory while the music is playing looks fantastic on a 77-inch 4K tv. So much sharp detail. Even though it is a static image, it changes colors and shading as the music is playing and is kind of mesmerizing.
Hi
I listened to this last night and found I had very little coming from the subs . Although the muffled original mix is gone . Overall the mix sounded more like a glorified stereo mix . There were times where the surround field was superb! I will give it another spin today but
Hope that this might be a bad disc !
5.1 blu ray

Thanks

Received the CD and LP yesterday and the SACD is arriving today. However, I have not yet had the chance to listen to any of it yet (and I doubt I will listen to the SACD today) as I tested positive for covid a couple of days ago. I want to wait until it's gone so I can have a clear head and the right mood to listen to it. Covid sucks.

I would check your settings. Definitely a LOT coming from my sub!

Get well soon. I too contracted a virus last week but my simple drugstore Covid test came out negative. Nevertheless I was not in the mood to switch on any music gear for almost a week.

Good that it's named Animals - 2018 Remix
That will forever remind us it took 4 years to release and
what a total wanker Waters is.
Why the snide dig at Waters? From what he said the hold up was Gilmour objecting to Mark Blake's sleeve notes being included in the release ("Gilmour has vetoed the release of the album unless these liner notes are removed"). Waters agreed to drop them, but posted them on his web site anyway. I've heard nothing from Gilmour to contradict Waters' point about the delay being due to that dispute and Gilmour's own role in the delay, but if you have evidence to the contrary, I'd like to see it.

I also went to a store with one hard to find copy. However, the three teenagers working were really excited about finding it and thought it was so cool that pink floyd was releasing Blu ray audio. One had a King Gizz shirt on so I knew they'd be into it. We all searched through their bongs, black light posters, knives, and box sets...
Blu ray found and enjoyed. 😀

In case anyone doesn't know, the liner notes are here: Animals - New mix update - Roger Waters

I'm sure most people will be happy enough with the single disc Blu-Ray edition (or the SACD if that is your preferred format of choice.)
However, just a heads up that the deluxe edition has dropped to $56 on amazon: Pink Floyd - Animals (2018 Remix) - Amazon.com Music

So you know what I say? I say SUCK IT, REVOLVER!

:SB

I finally read them and I get them sticking in Gilmour's craw. They're practically fawning over the genius of Roger Waters. They sound like they were written by the President of the Roger Waters Fan Club. No wonder Roger thinks they're wonderful. His ego is the size of Montana. Gilmour's is too, which is why he hated them.

Some thoughts on the menu music:

When I ripped my BD to mkv the only menu track I found was about 16:30 long. This was made up of a 9 minute piece followed by about 7 and a half minutes which were basically a repeat of the first 9 mins (they faded up about a minute in and also there was a shorter gap at some point). I think this piece must get repeated twice to make the 30+ minute menu, but basically it seems to boil down to about 9 minutes, so I have now created a 9 minute edit by just stopping at the point where it starts to repeat. If anybody disagrees with this I'm very happy to know - I did get a bit bored fiddling with it all so may have missed something!

It reminded me of McCartney's Fireman project, where bits of his work are remixed into ambient/ electronica pieces by the musician Youth. Then I remembered the Orb Metallic Spheres album which was a similar remix album based on a piece by Gilmour, which also featured Youth. I wonder if this menu piece was also a secret remix by Youth?

Ok so HUMAN ERROR ALL IS WELL ON THE LOW END !!!
vast improvement over the original recording!

The hold up was Waters insisting that the liner notes should be included. See how that works? 😉
The worst part is that this was held up because of the liner notes and I'd wager that none of really give crap one way or the other about them. We just wanted the music. To hell with the liner notes and caring who did what. It should be all about the music.
