BTW, I just found out that this surround mix was done 10 years ago.

sickening isn't it... but then again..if it had come out earlier the DVD would now be up on ebay for $50 or more!

and to add my name to the pile of anyone interested in selling the BLU RAY...i would be happy to give you my money!

I received the box set yesterday housed in a big box from Amazon. very well packed. The set looks great with the two heads appearing in various variations on the different sleeves. The large booklet is just the cd booklet enlarged, so nothing new there. The 2LP has nice gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves. The cd and bd are housed in their own card sleeves at the bottom of the box, in a separate place, no floating discs this time, as compared to some of the immersion sets.

I listened to the stereo and surround mix twice now and I like it a lot. The stereo mix sounds better to my ears than the cd version, which sounded a bit thin in places. The bd has enough muscle. The 5.1 is well done. Good use of the rears with a bit of ambiance and instrument placing, like keys and also harmony vocals. As the Brain Damage review already mentioned there is hardly any use of the center channel. I need to check my subwoofer settings, as I did not get much out of there.

Some parts are definitely different from the stereo mix. More emphasis in the slide guitar in Poles Apart for example. Also the middle part ion that song has a few bits that I never noticed in the cd stereo version. Marooned is excellent, with nice placement of the instruments.

High Hopes for example also has a few more sounds in the rears during the verses.

The download code gives you access to the album in 96/24 wav and 320kbps mp3. The booklet can be downloaded as pdf.

Not much time to really analyse the tracks, but so far I am happy with the set. :)

Here are a few pictures.

The front of the box (the green sticker in left upper corner is on the seal, the FSK sticker at the box itself, but can be removed easily without any residue)

Wow...if it was done that long ago, I am shocked that it has taken this long for it to come out!
Wonder why they didn't just put it out on SACD then.
Plus I wonder if Andy Jackson has already remixed "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" in 5.1 too.
I don't like that album as much as "The Division Bell", but I would gladly buy a 5.1 mix of that album too. :)

I imagine there are absolutely loads of unreleased 5.1's from around 10 years ago and those we know of already are just the tip of the iceberg.

meantime, has anybody here who ordered the standalone 5.1 DVD-V from the UK PF store received the disc yet? I realise U.S customers' orders are delayed but no such notification in this country.

You know it, man. They're being stored at Area 51, that's what I think...

But seriously, I hope we'll get a lot of them coming up from Audio Fidelity.

This looks a better set than the immersion boxes.

True it is full of vinyl which I cant play but that is almost better than being full of cd's which i could but wont play, marbles I definitely wont play with and a scarf I wont wear.

I am almost probably in for that but will wait until the DVDs have been received.

Thanks so much for the review, Robert!

So the rears have ambience and instruments? How about sound effects, swirling, panning?

Those things as well Matthias. In Poles Apart the middle section is going around the speakers, there are the sea sounds in Marooned etc. When I have time I will try to give a more detailed review one of these days.

Fantastic! Looks great thanks for the preview Diggele mine should be here Tuesday! (....along with Tull-A Passion Play and Marley-Legend on Blu-Ray Audio what a great week! ...If you don't count my bank account that is :yikes!)
