Like or dislike The Division Bell, what could make the boxed set more compelling would be to include previously unreleased tracks, along the lines of what was done with the Immersion boxed sets,
and I don't mean simply demos (while interesting) or live recordings (Pulse already covers that aspect). Nick Mason commented on the last page of his band autobiography that there were various
Pink Floyd efforts not yet pursued, including the statement: "We never released the 'ambient' tapes from the Division Bell sessions." That could hold some interest to fans, considering effort was put
into "finishing" tracks such as The Travel Sequence and The Hard Way for the DSOTM boxed set, and Have a Cigar and Wish You Were Here alternate versions, and Wine Glasses from the WYWH
boxed set.
Perhaps something might actually be included along those lines and just hasn't been stated, though I won't hold my breath - might get stuck waiting for the next anniversary reissue of The Division
Bell to see that - 25th or 30th anniversary? While getting a double LP of the album is great in all, three copies of singles on vinyl? Really? At least there are no trinkets, like the scarf and marbles - I
would actually wear a t-shirt, and at least the "coasters" sound a bit snazzier this time around.
But, regardless, as a fan Of The Division Bell (it's the album that finally turned me onto Pink Floyd, and it comes from a very personal point in my life), I'll be pursuing a copy of the boxed set. The
surround mix is enough to have hooked me into buying this boxed set in one iteration or another. And with the rest of you, I'll still be eager to see Meddle or Animals get a surround sound treatment,
even if not in an overblown boxed set.
