But I believe she has possession of those original QUAD masters!

This is my understanding of the situation as well. She has everything: stereo masters, Quad masters, multitracks, demo tapes, etc.

The catalog left ABC sometime in the 70s, long before MCA took it over. So they are probably safe.

There are the Atmos mixes of his album streaming, but those almost certainly have to be upmixes. They are very weak. But presuming she had to at least ok those being done, perhaps she’s changed her mind about the quads.
🤷‍♂️

I've listened to those new mixes. I agree, they are very weak BUT they are also quite discrete. I firmly believe they are either the most convincing upmixes/AI separated stems ever, OR they are directly from the multitracks. Either could be true.

I didn't pick them apart for discreteness. I just recall hearing so little going on in the rears that I found them pointless.

Croce's spouse Ingrid did mention in her memoir that ABC/Command did screw Jim out of millions in royalties from sales of his albums .....a common practice, it seems, back then. Who wouldn't be bitter ...or cautious??????
Well, she certainly hasn’t been shy or cautious about releasing the stereo versions 8 trillion times, so not sure why she’d need to be more cautious with the quads.

Good point but hopefully with her new arrangement with BMG management maybe that in time will change as well! My newly remastered 3 RBCD set of Croce's albums from BMG management do sound spectacular!

My guess (and of course I have no idea) is that the reason behind her reluctance to release the quads may have been the same as most of the rest of the industry for years -- there wasn't enough revenue potential to be worth the bother. But now with CD sales down to a trickle and streaming paying squat, those ol' dusty quads might suddenly look a bit brighter to her.

As sjcorne pointed out, SDE just released that Crowded House BD~A ATMOS which was licensed from BMG management [Croce's NEW label] so perhaps Paul Sinclair can broker a deal to get the ball rolling on the Croce QUAD/ATMOS BD~As ..... and Paul, you CAN fit more than one surround album on a BD~A ......

anything's possible these days.

But Croce didn't sell squat in the UK, I don't think. And Paul seems pretty UK-centric with his release choices.

I just thought I might interject here for information sake....
Is anyone else aware that Gil Evans has 3 quadraphonic recordings .
The 3rd is a duet on Sony Records..Satin Doll with Kimiko Kasai , SQ quad album.
yes and that Quad of Satin Doll also made it out in Japan on a MultiCh SACD, with a mega discrete mix to boot!! 🙌😻

So I heard but if she could be convinced that surround has made a significant comeback, most especially with ATMOS and a lucrative deal is brokered perhaps she'll change her 'tune!'

Those albums were extremely well recorded and well deserve a second chance!

TIME HEALS ALL ....and IMO, those Croce QUADS would sell like proverbial hotcakes!
aren't all those Jim Croce albums streaming in Atmos already on Apple Music etc.? 🤷🏻‍♀️👀

We're way out in fantasyland, BMG/Sony, BMG Rights Management, SDE, DV, Apple Music - which is always a fun place to be.

Lots to take in with this article. But the court dates were 1983-1984.... don't think it was so much they'd screwed JIM over, it was more they weren't paying out to Ingrid.

These are what I think could be top contenders. The only reason I did not include Aretha Franklin Live is because her Best of hits collection was already issued in quad, and there has been no repetition of an artist (thus far) outside of a box set. "No Secrets" would have been the choice pick rather than Playing Possum, but there was a quality DVD-A mix already issued of the album. While "Billion Dollar Babies" was reissued as a Quadio title after a previous DVD-A 20 years ago, that album was a very hot rock title, and the quad mix differed dramatically from the 5.1 as well as the standard stereo mix of the album.

Modern Jazz Quartet - The Last Concert
Herbie Mann - Hold On I'm Coming
James Taylor - Gorilla
Bread - Baby-I'm-A-Want You
Carly Simon - Playing Possum
Rod Stewart - Atlantic Crossing
Bette Midler - Divine Miss M
Deep Purple - Stormbringer

I would imagine that Aretha Franklin's Greatest Hits would be back on the table at this point. It's been a while since the failed initial quadio run, so I wouldn't be surprised if another reissue of that album is somewhere in the works.
What failed with the Aretha quadio? I never heard anything about issues with it.
