Thankfully, Curtis Mayfield "Roots“ master tape survived, it looks like, but most importantly will get a release.

We’ve known for years that when a title starts going for sky high prices, and sells, there’s a certain demand. And we have wished that we could get a re-release. It looks like Billy Cobham’s "Spectrum” will get one. It’ll also be interesting what type mastering will be on it. Dionne Warwicke’s "Then Came You" one would guess, based on all the interest shown for it, will hopefully eventually get a release.

The Spinners "Pick Of The Litter” will get us now two of their three Quad releases, with the big hit “Games People Play” that was in heavy rotation on the radio throughout the 1970s.

And, Aretha Franklin "Live At Fillmore West" is an historic moment recorded at Bill Graham’s Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco.

But, but, but, why? I like classic rock. More specifically 80s rock, but that is something that doesn't really exist in surround. A few titles, but sooooo many more that I want.
The whole idea with this Rhino series is that it's old Quadraphonic (Quadio) titles, which basically ended in the late 70's; reissued in Hi-Res. digital.

We can hope that more 80's Rock titles will be coming in either 5.1 or Atmos 🤞

Interesting The Spinners' New and Improved (from 1974) is being skipped in favour of Pick of the Litter (from 1975) - I wonder if it's being saved to be paired with Dionne Warwick(e)'s Then Came You in a later batch as both albums share the title track, a collaboration/duet between the two artists.

close enough to Billy Cobham's Spectrum that I'm convinced these guesses are all right, even if the font does differ a bit (look at the "a" and "o").

Close enough!

People keep talking as if we already know the titles for sure. While we think we know our best guesses have been wrong before. I will most certainly be in whatever we get but will likely wait for Warner Music Canada to avoid the double tax fiasco.

Based on the colours I'm most certain about "Roots", not as much the others.

Can't find the quad master for New and Improved, ding dang it.

Bummer. Thank you so much for looking for it, and caring about the title. Perhaps it might show up at some point.

This is case in point why Quadraphonic release programs are so important to support. We’re really grateful for everyone who is working hard to get out the Quad titles. All the Quad and Stereo titles are our cultural heritage. And once it’s gone, it’s gone. But the good news is the vaults doors are open now. Hopefully, the titles will keep coming. Something not to be taken for granted.

Confirmed. I am so happy about these guessed titles.
I have all the stereos and the AF Spectrum.
I just have no doubt that the quality of stereo and quad will be better than what I currently own.
OMG-Aretha at Fillmore that is so good. Good reading about how Bill got it to happen.
King Curtis at Fillmore is one step better.
I have the Curtis Mayfield cd stereo box set, anything Curtis is great.
This might be my favorite 4some so far?

Wow, what a shame - I'm wondering, as someone with many years of experience with these kinds of things, could you give us any insight (even if you can't speak about this album particularly) into the most likely or common reasons for this kind of thing happening?

To me this is a particularly unusual situation, because the three Spinners albums released by Atlantic were done in consecutive years ('73, '74, '75), at the same studio (Sigma Sound) and the last two (New and Improved and Pick of the Litter) were both mastered by the same guy (Tom Dwyer) at the same cutting facility ("CD-4 Cutting Room at the Columbia Recording Studio, New York, N.Y") so how does the middle one in the series vanish? I have some recollection that when the Quadio box was being assembled, some of the Chicago quad masters were found in the CBS NY vault - is there any chance New and Improved is there too?

It's also my understanding from speaking to Sigma veteran Arthur Stoppe that safety copies of every completed mix (both stereo and quad) were made after the sessions were complete, and retained in the Sigma vault until/unless the label requested them. When Sigma closed in the '90s all of these tapes were returned to the labels with the exception of about 6,000 tapes where ownership couldn't be established that were donated to Drexel University, where they're now housed. If both sets of tapes are missing, could this indicate someone pulled them for a project and then subsequently misfiled them?

Do you have any record of having the tapes at all? I'm not sure how far back the Warners digital asset management system reaches, but I guess the optimist in me is hoping that it's more a case of "we can't find them at the moment" because an asset control barcode sticker fell off or they're in a storage facility waiting to be cataloged, rather than a "they definitely don't exist" scenario due to being thrown away or stolen or something. As someone with a deep interest in the history of the format, not to mention a desire to be in this kind of work, your perspective would be really valuable.

Would there, by chance, be any Wilson Pickett quad mixes in the vault? I guess Mr. Pickett's commercial fortunes had declined with his move to RCA by the time quad got a push. Still, In Philidelphia was from 1970, recorded at Sigma Sound, and produced by Gamble & Huff, which did pretty well. Don't Knock My Love from '71 had a couple of hits, as well, with the title track and his cover of Free's "Fire And Water".
