The Thread That Never Ends......
Welcome back my friends to......
Now in the refinement phase. The slatwall hooks I was waiting on arrived. Put that felt board ( right @ar surround ? ) to work holding the bloated box sets. lol

Was this the first time that Mrs. cbmmm3 got to see all of your discs in one place.

Doc - you're poking the bear. The Mrs does NOT like that I have all these discs. It is a source of - um - discussion quite frequently. BTW truth be known, that wall represents about 25 percent of my collection. Waiting on hardware for the other wall. When that is done, Ill post a pic. Prolly a few weeks out yest

If Mrs. Ricky is complaining about the size of your disc collection, it means that you are doing your job.

You ought to see Mrs. Surround's eyes roll when I'm discussing my model train collection with someone.

Just tell her that you bought them on Black Friday for pennies on the dollar from GOS.

I've got one whole wall and part of another in the living room filled with disc racks. lol.
Three 72" tall and three shorter ones.
Actually the 72" ones are really bookcases I modified and added additional shelves to.
Still have box sets piled up that won't fit in the racks, as I never planned for outsized things bigger than DVD/BD cases.

A friend of mine lives with his wife in a condo with one floor and a basement. He has a home theater on the first floor and the basement has been entirely taken over by his model train set. The wife used to have her workout equipment in the basement but then he and a buddy built a bigger layout. He ultimately was profiled in a model train magazine(something he has in common with Rod Stewart who was profiled in the same magazine). And then there’s Neil Young.

My train layout and AV system share the same space in the basement. The layout goes around the walls of the basement. Mrs Surround's treadmill is also in that space and she has room for her exercise mat. People like to operate my layout because there is a lot of space unlike the layouts that completely fill the room where people have issues moving past each other.

I don’t own one but my understanding is that the Sony has a well documented intermittent stuttering problem. Also, it can’t be set to automatically detect and select Dolby Vision. That means that you have to manually select Dolby Vision each time that you play a disc that potentially utilizes that feature. The Panasonic players don’t have those problems but they don’t play SACD.

All UHD players have reports of problematic playback at times- esp. freezing, skipping or stuttering. Even $1k Panasonic units. Some may have more of a chance than others- hard to say with only anecdotal evidence. I've had hardly no issues with my Sony UDP X800 M2. But others have. I tend to think Sony's issues are overstated with the 800; the 700 seems to be more problematic. There are many possible explanations why some players work fine and others don't from all manufacturers.

And not only can Panny's not play back SACD, they also can't play DVD-As

I did that. The last GOS shipment was 6 discs. I told her that Gene gave me a heckuva deal. Her point is " you will never be able to listen to all this music in your lifetime". She does not like clutter. And then there is the excess Audio equipment that I need to rid. Anyone need some high end stuff ?

Yep, once Christmas arrives I am moving my Sony UBP-X700M to music only and using my new Panasonic DB-UB820K for video.
Each Sony generation stutters less, and the 800m2 is the best of them all, but it is still a well known issue.
But, it is often a case of your version will stutter or not. Good luck on that.

But Mary DOES have a point, Ricko because I've poised that very same question to myself ..... I have enough physical media to last 2 lifetimes not to mention all the current streaming channels on Prime, Netflix, Apple, Disney/HULU and FIOS!

And since there are no high end audio salons left where I used to trade in my older components for newer ones ...like yourself, I have myriads of speakers, amps, pre amps and older equipment which is sitting dormant in my basement!

And the number of newer surround discs has literally exploded ....... Like Al Jolson sang in THE JAZZ SINGER ...

"You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet!"

Clearly your marriage is not built on a shared love of music.

 It's sad that she would say something so cruel because all of the stuff you bought from GOS is unwrapped. Therefore, you purchased them with great progress already attained compared to the piles of unwrapped stuff we've all got sitting in our bins.

Apparently, Owen, when Ricko proposed to Opera Diva Maria Callas....she turned him down!

Well my last AVR purchase also cost me a new washer and dryer. Fair trade for me. lol. Especially since I do most of the clothes washing.

I'll have you all know that I run things in my home!
Vacuum cleaner
Washer
Dryer
