Just finished ripping Bridge Of Sighs, quite a chore, but got it right, goofed up on 1974 Original and 2024 Remix. The 1974 stereo original has shorter times than the 2024 stereo remix.
There are a total of 7 separate rips on the one Blu Ray.

EDIT: I fucked up. The CD has 10 rarities and the Blu Ray has 13.

Rippers, just stick with the Blu Ray.
I finally listened to the 2 stereo versions and I find the original mix to be far superior to the 2024 mix in many ways. Examples: On Day of the Eagle the guitar sounds like it's in a long tube, to me sounds like a demo, and on the solo they added a flanger which IMHO makes it sound terrible. Bridge of Sighs, Jimmy Dewars voice, is way low, almost in the background. IMHO he and Trower together made the sound of the original band, and I only listen to the albums where Dewar is the vocalist. Don't mess with perfection. You can bring out some buried sounds and clean it up to 96/24, but don't change the original sound of the songs!

2024 "Remasters" is not the menu where I would have placed the Atmos / 5.1 mixes. Why are they not part of the 2024 Remixes? I admit to being truly lost trying to find the spatial mix of the album, as I ignored the Remasters menu until the bitter end! I have other knit picks... this release is the Bridge of Whys.

So the re-issue producers went in to the multi-tracks, solo'd the guitar and aded a flanger effect, and then mixed it back in? Seems incongruous to me.

I'm listening now to the 5.1 mix, no problem with me, but I do have my rears running through a separate amp so I adjusted the volume to match with the fronts. I like the new mix but not better than the original.
I wanted to listen to the 5.1 mix first as it was getting the main complaints. Not demo quality but I'm fine with the separation.
I know I'll like the original mix remaster. Recommended so far, especially for the price!

Delivered a few hours ago.
Gave it a quick listen.
The first song “Day Of The Eagle” was a real letdown and kind of soured me, a bit.
The rest of the album was much more discrete and engaging and quickly sweetened my appraisal. I definitely need to listen properly with my full attention but I am glad I bought this.

Someone needs to tell those that produce these mixes that they really need to find a way to make that first song spectacular. It really makes or breaks the listener’s first impression
BTW I felt the same way about Def Leppard’s Pyromania.
Yeah, Pyromania was a complete let down, wish it was mixed by SW........i am hopeful Hysteria would be mixed by SW

For anyone who, like me, has yet to upgrade to Atmos, I'd recommend listening to the Atmos downmixed to 5.1 instead of listening to the dedicated 5.1 mix. To me the Atmos downmixed to 5.1 feels more balanced than the actual 5.1 mix. Additional guitars on "In This Place" feel more dramatic in the rear channels. While Dewar's harmony vocals on "Too Rolling Stoned" feel a little too overbearing in the rears on the 5.1, in the Atmos they're a bit more subtle and blend better. Overall, I'm enjoying the downmixed Atmos more. I was a little reluctant to purchase this, but right now I'm happy that I did. And I haven't even listened to the bonus tracks yet!

I completely agree, about listening to the Atmos on 5.1, rather than the actual 5.1.

I ordered from Amazon US. It was delayed, and then shipped, but apparently delayed again in transit. According to Amazon, if it doesn't show up today it's eligible for refund tomorrow. It made it to a local carrier, I guess I just don't get it.

I'm batting 1000 for June. The Rhino debacle (which are still MIA) and then this.

No shipping confirmation and no tracking number shown on my pre-order. I've sent them a reminder.
I heard back from DD yesterday that this was out of stock and if they were not able to get more they would cancel my order. I told them to cancel as it was available elsewhere. An hour later I got a reply that it had shipped, LOL.

Well I got mine . And a couple of listens in 5.0 .
It is a surround recording...but....

At the very least the engineer could have put a bit more , swirl or a good pan around on one or 2 of the guitar effects...or even a couple of U's.
Why ? because on this type of music it just begs for some.

So im happy I have it , but it's no show piece for surround.

Also the 3 piece band thing doesn't hold water as an excuse, because if you read Trower's liner notes he mentions that the main guitar tracks were laid down , plus the bass and drums , and then he went back and added additional guitar parts , vocals etc.
I believe Jonathan mentions he heard a second guitar in the Atmos mix.

All in all it certainly could have and should have been a more adventurous surround mix , but I'll keep mine regardless.

I've been somewhat underwhelmed by the mixing on this as well, as I feel they could have done much more interesting things with the tracks that I hear are available.

The last few days I've been going over the song 'Lady Love' from my 7.1 base Atmos rip in Audacity; and this is what I'm hearing in a detailed breakdown. I believe in Audacity channels 5 & 6 are Rears and 7 & 8 are sides IINM.

Let's start with the LFE:
- this is a somewhat reserved low end bass at around 40-120 hz and peaking at 60 hz.

Next the Center channel:
-nicely isolated Bass guitar here ("I actually like that use for Center, might have liked the vocals more in the Center also") with only a hint of vocals and a couple of guitar licks.

Now the Fronts:
- starts with Cowbell in both L&R (so centers it in Front- "not crazy about that decision")
-a distorted rhythm guitar comes in, also some Drums and Vocals, and a little later some shaker mainly in the Front Left;
the Drums, low level bass, Vocals are all in the fronts.
-later on the guitar solo comes in at a couple of points, also mainly in the Fronts.

Next the sides (7&8-to stereo):

-has some muffled low level bass and vocals in it.
-mainly, it's some distorted rhythm guitar, which sounds like 2 different guitars one Left and the other Right (probably the same ones as in the Fronts, just more isolated. This can be heard clearly when there are the occasional slightly cleaner (perhaps just through guitar volume control) strums, i.e. at 30-40 sec.& 1:03-1:13.

Finally the Rears (5&6-to stereo):
-This is were it gets real interesting to me, with very isolated cleaner guitar tracks.
Left Rear (5) has clean guitar strums; and Rear Right (6) has some fairly clean guitar slide licks.
*("would have liked these to have a little more amplitude in the overall mix")

Here's what the 7.1 wav file looks like in Audacity-
