After listening to Wilson's 5.1 mix of A Farewell to Kings, I wonder if I can listening to anyone else's 5.1 mix of Rush. It's THAT good.

Well, Brett, if it ain't a bona fide, certified Steve Wilson 5.1 remix ...... ever hear of a Bum's RUSH.....second cousin, once removed, to the Bee's Knees.

Maybe not, just cause it looks like Rich Chycki has not done much with the band since 2012.
Maybe it’s David Bottrill, who remixed “Vapor Trails” (in stereo) and also mixed “R40 Live”, which is RUSH’s best sounding live Blu-Ray IMHO.
Bottrill is on record saying he doesn't "get" studio music in surround though.

After Geddy Lee saying that they would love to have Steven Wilson remix their albums in 5.1, and Steven Wilson mentioning how much he loves the Hemispheres/Permanent Waves/Moving Pictures era of Rush, and then actually having him remix A Farewell to Kings to astounding effect, it would be really surprising to me and such a huge let down to not have him doing this particular surround remix. I mean, it just has to be him, right? This album, along with Permanent Waves and Frank Zappa's Joe's Garage are at the top of my Steven Wilson dream remixes list.

At this point I'm just glad the multis were found. Hoping for a competent mix, whomever they selected.

I agree...after years of suffering through some bad to average results of Rush music...that was a wake up call..it would be hard to go back to "pretty good"...and again... if SW didn't do this mix...the decision to force you into 3LPs to get the surround disc would be hard for me to accept..

I just want to mention something...we have read how SW wants to spend more time on his own music...BUT...I noticed that he had time for this 3CD set...now he's listed as one of the SIX engineers on this title...so how much and what he did is a mystery to me...but I think this shows the willingness to do other projects and Hemispheres is certainly something he would want to do...

I’m pretty sure they just used existing stereo remixes of his for this compilation.
As of right now, it looks like the only new remix that Steven Wilson has worked on this year is “This Was”.
(All of the other remixes released this year were completed before this year.)

Really excited about the release with some mild reservation like others on who actually did the 5.1 mix.

Don't want to bore you but I just finished working 40 years with one company and this is the 40th week of the year and yesterday was the end of the 40th week of this year and my last day of work so I was very busy with coworkers, etc. I think it was the first day in many years that I did not even have a chance to go on the net to check any news so I was pretty excited when I saw this thread today and other news around the net explaining that the preorder information for Hemispheres.

What a year for surround releases.

Its listed now on amazon.co.uk at £140.92

grr...! (apologies in advance for a moan and I'm not shooting the messenger, Duncan!) i really want to get this for the 5.1.. but the money these stuffed to the bollocks sets sometimes cost "just" to get a surround mix.. hopefully it'll come down closer to the £100 mark, still hard to justify but.. you know what i mean.. (i hope! :ROFLMAO: )

Was hoping this would be the 2nd one. :)
No mention of Steve Wilson's name does make me a little nervous. (They released those appalling Sectors mixes after all.)
But they can't just suddenly switch gears after knocking it out of the park with the first reissue, right? And switch engineers literally in the middle of a song?!

The greedy marketing bit with the surround only in the super expensive edition again. Yeah...
