I reached out to Paul Sinclair over at SDE and asked if he could find out who is responsible for the 5.1 mix. Hopefully he can find out for us.

I’m surprised he has not said ANYTHING about this release yet over on SDE. I mean one of the best RUSH albums is FINALLY getting a long overdue 5.1 mix (about 7 years after RUSH first started releasing 5.1 mixes of their classic albums.)
Up until the end of last year, I had thought that a release like this would never happen, but once the SW mix of “A Farewell to Kings” was released, I thought there was once again a glimmer of hope, and now (a year later) it’s finally happening!

I’m so looking forward to this release no matter who mixed it, but I’m also trying to get to the bottom of who mixed this.

:)

Congratulations on your last day of work!!!

Thanks Sean, it still hasn't sunk in as its to fresh that its the end of one long chapter of life and on to the next chapter.
For any other number geeks.
Besides 40 theme for my career and other 40 things going on this year.
I started working at 18 and finished in 2018.
Birthday on Oct.13(and second grand son Liam turns 1) and officially end of work is Oct.31 as rest of this month is holidays owed.
This is also our 31 wedding anniversary this month.
Born in in 1959 and turn 59.
Well enough of that, lets get back to Rush.
Here's a Rush comment in my going away card I received from one of my coworkers who is a music fan and is not a Rush fan so pretty cool what he wrote:

Glad to hear you didn't RUSH to a FLY BY NIGHT decision. Especially after being in the dss(Desk Side Support) LIMELIGHT all these years.
You'll always be CLOSER TO THE HEART. Good luck-from Wes.

I’m sad as hell, though.

Then go to your nearest 7 ELEVEN and get yourself a LARGE SLURPEE!:ROFLMAO:A GOOD belch will do you GOOD!

Situations like this make me so angry... I’m sure AFTK sold very well, in no small part due to SW’s involvement; now they follow-up with an equally costly set which is likely to have an inferior surround mix... if we buy the set to help ensure more releases in the future, then we’ll keep getting crap; if the set sells poorly, then they’ll stop the reissue campaign. Really frustrating.

Truth be told, NOT that I'm an expert, but it seems ALL the RUSH 5.1 reissues [including the BD~As] WITH THE EXCEPTION OF STEVE WILSON'S 5.1 remix of FAREWELL to KINGS were MEDIOCRE.

You can take your chances by pre~ordering Hemispheres or wait for the 5.1 reviews. This set ain't exactly chump change and RUSH has been known to reissue albums already released in 5.1 WITH BETTER REMIXES.

And ALL EARS [in Post #91] has a point. If they didn't locate all the multis of HEMISPHERES some of the tracks may be [gulp!] UPMIXES!

I'd say the real question is: did they simply elect not to bring him in again (for some reason), or did they offer and he turned it down?

We all know SW is slowing down on the remixes, but from what I read in that article it seems like this a really big album for him and Rush is one the highest-profile (if not the highest-profile) acts he's worked with, so I find it hard to believe he wouldn't try to make time for this one.

If he did actually turn it down, I'd say it does not bode well for future remixes from other artists. Once the current series he's working on end (XTC, Tull, Crimson, GG)- who knows how much more output we'll see from SW, if any?

Admittedly, I don't know this album all that well- I really only know Moving Pictures and that one deserves a better surround mix than what we've got IMO.

Steve Wilson, did admit in an interview that he IS experiencing hearing loss and perhaps he wants to preserve his hearing for his own projects and LIVE concerts. It's amazing how many 5.1 projects he did accomplish over a relatively short period of time.

If Hemispheres turns out to be another MOVING PICTURES as pertains to the surround mix, then good luck to those who want to lavish this type of money for what appears to be a 'questionable' multichannel remix.

I knew something was fishy when the name of the 5.1 remixer was NOT listed in the announcement....as Wilson's name is synonymous with the Gold Standard of surround remixers!

Not SW

Sorry folks, forthcoming
@rushtheband
Hemispheres 5.1 not one of mine.

My guess is that he could not fit the remixing into his schedule this year, cause he loves the record, and I am not aware of any issues between him and the band members. (I do know Alex Lifeson is a big SW fan and has been seen at many of his concerts.)

The search for the mysterious mixing engineer continues!
