There is a reply to a letter in the feedback section of the current Sound and Vision magazine (page12) that says Elliot Scheiner is in LA mixing the Eagles new studio album in stereo, with a 5.1 mix set for fall. hmmm.

Well that's good news. Now for the format! :D

The Eagles have been surround friendly for years. "On The Border", "One of These Nights", "Hell Freezes Over", "Hotel California", "Hole in the World", and their live DVDs have great surround.

Somehow, I can't get myself to buy a $100 boxed set of music I don't absolutely love.

Stick around awhile, you'll eventually acquire the insanity. I've only listened to one of the Doors' discs myself, but I don't regret buying it in the slightest (and no, I'm not rich). Get 'em while you can. This way next year I'll still have new surround music to listen to, even if there are no further releases. I haven't quite bitten at the Genesis box as I am unfamiliar with their music, but I might need something for the year after next...

Actually I bit on the DTS versions of the Genesis boxed set since it's $64 at Amazon.com.

Well, yeah, when I get some play money, maybe I'll buy it - then stash it away until there's a LONG wait for new DVD-As - then bring it out! Voila! New DVD-A!

I have the DTS version of the Genesis Box and I find it totally listenable as well as enjoyable...Some surround sound genesis is better than no surround sound genesis to my ears

This is great for surround lovers and Eagles fans, but for me it's a no buy. I just find them too soul-less and sterile now.

I'll buy it.

I am really going through withdrawal here. The surround releases are way too far between and I am wondering what direction to go in next. It sure was fun while it lasted.

I might get flamed here but I have been going the Bit Torrent route for 5.1 stuff and it has its moments.....

Mr. Scheiner knows his work. "Hell Freezes Over" on video was superb. My girlfriend was astounded at the sound and video. He's done other surround mixes. Could be something to hear. DVD-A please!

I, too, can sometimes find the Eagles music to be a little bit without soul. But on the other hand, I do go through stretches where I like it well enough. I passed on The Doors (just didn't like the mix on L.A. Woman enough to warrant buying the entire set) and I'll probably pass on the Genesis discs (too much for something I just don't like), but if this Eagles release is just a single, affordable disc I'll definitely buy.

The Doors box is great DVD-A, don't judge by L.A. Woman mix alone, which was done before the box project as a separate DVD-A release.

Admittedly, I'd be more inclined to buy a Doors boxed set over a Genesis set (just based on the type of music I like). I had always hoped that maybe we'd get to see individual albums made available.

I didn't know the Eagles were making a new studio album. I am interested in hearing it and I like the Eagles surround music I have, two DVD-V's.

Has there been any word on a format yet?

Are the Eagles on a Warner label? I wonder if it'll be one of those MVI titles? Firstly, let's just hope that the 5.1 mix sees the light of day. But what is most important to me is that the mix be 1) a good surround mix; and 2) at a minimum encoded at full-rate DTS. Better yet, throw in hi-rez DVD-Audio!

I don't want to see something that is merely Dolby Digital.

OK. I'm not saying this means anything at all, but let's just ponder....

I've not seen anything mentioning that "The Long Road To Eden" would be released in 5.1 surround, other than the brief mention in Sound & Vision magazine earlier this year. And it seems unlikely that we will see this 5.1 mix released in North America (for at least a year) thanks to that exclusivity deal the Eagles signed with Walmart. But....

Play.com has listed 2 separate entries for the new album. The first just says 2-CD set and appears to be available now as it is listed as "in stock". However, a second entry lists a "Deluxe" version with a pre-order release date of November 19, 2007.

Since this is a 'international' version, I suppose that might could increase the chances that the "deluxe" version includes a 5.1 surround mix???????????????????? The description doesn't currently elaborate on what makes it "deluxe".

I'm not holding my breath.... It's probably just another 2-CD version, but MAYBE????? I mean, hey, this wouldn't be the first time we got our first glimpse of a new 5.1 release from Play.com before anyplace else.

PLAY.COM product listing of both versions...

PLAY.COM 'deluxe' listing...

I've had a chance to hear a couple of tracks off the new album, one that I've played so many times that I'm burned out on, the other one not so much.

All in all classic eagles. If you're a fan I think you'll enjoy the new album.

"How Long" is in heavy regular rotation on our station.

From what I've heard of it, it'd have to be in 50000.1 for me to buy it.
