Yeah Dunc, us metrically challenged Americans are the last embarrassed holdouts in the universe. It’s tough when you’ve lived your whole life relating to degrees Fahrenheit, pounds and ounces, and miles per hour!

Ironically, it all stems from the British Imperial System from back when we were a colony.

There is a REASON we stayed with what we have in the US. The US system is much handier.

US units are handy for most occupations.
- Most dimensions needed to build buildings are integer multiples of the foot. Metric requires 2- or 3-digit real numbers.
- Most cooking measures are based on doubling or halving recipes and the size of the chicken egg. Metric needs 2- or 3-digit masses.
- - Imagine a metric-sized egg.
- Celsius is based on the properties of water. Fahrenheit is based on weather.

And those using metric should not be using grams to measure stylus force.

US units need mostly integer math. You need a calculator to figure things in metric.

I was jolted out of bed. Thought it was construction workers who were replacing the entire front steps and stoop at my house. And then came across this on AOL News:

Man getting vasectomy during earthquake recounts experience​

One Horsham, Pennsylvania, man shared his unusual earthquake experience, saying the tremors hit when he was in the middle of receiving a vasectomy.

"The surgeon sort of froze and all of us kind of seemed a bit confused," Justin Allen told USA TODAY. "Even when the surgeon said 'that’s gotta be an earthquake,' I thought he was joking."

Luckily, Allen's doctor was able to resume the procedure after a brief pause, and the rest went off without a hitch. Now recovering at home, Allen said it's an experience no one involved will forget, especially because his social media post about the incident has since gone viral.

"My wife says that 'this is a clear and obvious sign that we should not have any more kids,'" Allen said.

Italy's Mount Etna has been putting on a show by blowing near-perfect circles into the Sicilian sky.
A new crater opened on the summit Europe's largest active volcano leading to an unusual display of the so-called 'smoke rings'.
The rings are made of gases and propelled by a circular vent in the volcano.

My nephews are traveling tomorrow to see the total eclipse. But believe me, they ain't going by Lear jet and are staying in some dive hotel near Cleveland. As for me, I will be watching on TV.

hope everybody is safe...where I am located we don't have those things happening....not yet anyway.....but, then again the 8th of April hasn't arrived yet....according to what you here the world is about to end...stay safe down there....

It seems a bit ridiculous to pay that for a 4 to 5 minute experience. Although some of us have shelled out big bucks for a hotel just to get a little...well, use your imagination.

Not sure if there is property damage or not - did not have time to check the foundation before I left yesterday (saw Italian artist Laura Pausini at the Theater at MSG last night )
We did have the doors of our China Cabinet fly open & lost some of my wife’s beloved China from her Grandmother

I could not find a hotel within 30 miles of the school tonight…I am staying at a ski resort…and I don’t ski!
