But what I keep wondering is: why did the powers that be make a rule that a disc player not be multi-regional? I still don't get that, seems absurd in this day of a "global economy".

Staggered release dates: distributors may choose to release products in certain regions at different times and do not want consumers to be able to enjoy early copies of items in their respective regions. Furthermore, some regions may have the need for censorship which imports may bypass.

Is there a matrixed mono method? Where you hide stereo information in a mono signal to be decoded? Just curious.

I bought a handful of classic Disney movies in Jan or Feb this year. Very limited supply, and prices were definitely clearance. So good for me, but still a damned shame.

Target used to have a bin of discs that were getting close to the toss-out price. I always picked up two or three from them, too.

Now I see RedBoxes are closing, too.

Get ‘em while you can.

I never really understood why discs even had regions. Maybe some differences in copyright laws, but that sort of shit has always been a pain. I did the Australian region-free mod to my Oppo, so maybe it doesn’t count for me any more.

Well, FM multiplex uses a subcarrier similar to CD-4, but I don’t believe matrix math allows for a single element in a set.

Yeah, electricity went during that video, didn't come back till 5am. Electric company was sawing up trees next door that fell on the lines all night till 5am. As a result, and in addition to our house getting very warm...I couldn't sleep.

Seriously, there were sizeable branches (more like trunks) all over our yard and in back. Zero damage. Yet, our neighbors (2 of them anyway) have tree's or big chucks of trees on top of their roof. This was straight line 75mph winds, no tornadoes.
