Software to Decrypt Blu Rays for Personal Ripping w DVD Audio Extractor

For years I've been using AnyDVD HD (from Redfox) to decrypt blu rays so I could then use DVD Audio Extractor to rip the audio files (for both blu rays and dvds) for my personal use. But yesterday I discovered that AnyDVD HD is no more, the software no longer works when I tried to decrypt the new Robin Trower blu ray and the website is no longer accessible.

What software can I now use to simply decrypt the blu ray so I can then continue to use DVD Audio Extractor for the ripping?

Does DVD Audio Extractor not decrypt direct from the disc/ISO? I haven't used it in a while, but I thought it did.

I use MakeMKV. It's free - sort of. They update the free registration key monthly, but sometimes they dont do it right away, so if you find yourself wanting a rip something in the first week of the month, its 50/50 if they updated the key or not. They do this to entice a purchase. Or, you can backdate your computer date, and use the old key, then changed your date back to normal after your enter the old key.

After using Make MKV, I use MMH to convert from .mka to my desired format.

I did not need to use AnyDVD HD to decrypt DVDs and DVD Audio Extractor ripped fine for DVDs. I had to use AnyDVD HD to decrypt copy protected blu rays to rip them with DVD Audio Extractor.

I just downloaded MakeMKV, and so far I've been able to load the blu ray disc and then locate the audio files I want to decrypt and rip - but in doing this I am only getting one mkv file for the entire disc. I'd like to get individual audio tracks. I can then use JRiverMC or https://cloudconvert.com/mkv-to-flac to convert from mkv to flac/wav so I can play via ROON music software.

If there is a way to use MakeMKV to just decrypt the audio files on the disc so they can be recognized and ripped by DVD Audio Extractor as individual flac/wav files this would be great - but I haven't figured out if this can be done and how?

Gotcha. I forgot 1 critical step, I haven't ripped anything in a little bit. Drag the one big file that makemkv generates into mkvtoolnix, select the output tab, split mode = before chapters, chapter numbers = type in 'all', then click 'start multiplexing' towards the bottom.

Also, in MakeMKV, you'll need to unselect the audio tracks and Titles that you do not need. You dont have to - you can unselect the tracks mkvtoolnix, but otherwise you are ripping a bunch of stuff you dont need.

Thanks. I just wish there was an easier simpler way, where one program would just deencrypt, and then use DVD Audio Extractor which allows you to label each track and rip easily in one step.

I'm going from memory, so I may not have the exact wording of the menu items I selected. I ran MakeMKV and selected Backup from the File menu. This creates a folder which has the contents of the entire Blu-ray disc arranged exactly as they appear when reading the disc itself. I then ran DVD Audio Extractor, and selected the DVD source as a folder, then browsed to the folder that MakeMKV created (using the button just to the right of the source drop down menu). Then you can extract the files with DVD Audio Extractor the same way as if you were directly accessing the Blu-ray disc before when AnyDVD HD was working.

Creating the backup folder with MakeMKV took a bit of time, but then extracting the actual files with DVD Audio Extractor went quite fast since it's reading from the hard drive instead of the Blu-ray disc.

Even though this worked, I still hope that AnyDVD HD comes back since it's nicer to not have the extra step of decrypting the disk before running DVD Audio Extractor.

I did what Pat suggested, and using MakeMKV and then mkvtoolnix I was able to get individual numbered mkv tracks. Then I used JRiverMC and loaded the mkv files and converted to FLAC (or WAV) for use in ROON music software. I looked up and labeled tracks via the Super Deluxe Edition website and Discogs.

In Makemkv, at the Preferences - Integration, I checked the Windows 32 & 64 boxes, then restarted my laptop, to see if by chance it would integrate DVD Audio Extractor simply using the disc. This didn't work.

Next I will try Mark's method of selecting Backup from the File menu and backing up the entire disc, then running DVD Audio Extractor on the disc file as the source folder, and see if this works! Hopefully!

Also what's nifty now I've learned how to easily rip the music tracks in mkv from Dolby Atmos blu rays. Currently, as I have a Kaleidescape system with a DV-700 disc vault, I have all of my Dolby Atmos music discs in the vault, and I play them via one of my Kaleidescape Alto blu ray players (music is streamed from the vault, via hardwired ethernet, to the Alto and then out HDMI to a surround sound processor). My vault is at capacity and I have wanted to simply rip the Dolby Atmos music when its only blu ray audio with no appreciable video to a portable SSB drive, which plugs into one of my blu ray players which will play via USB.

Hopefully AnyDVD HD will come back. But if it does, as I have a lifetime license, I bet a "new company" doesn't honor the lifetime license (this happened back in 2015-2016 once before) and will require brand new payment for a lifetime license. So assuming Mark's method works I'll probably just continue in that fashio;n.

And like you said, very fast, ripped the 5.1 album in a few minutes!!!! No need to ever go back to AnyDVD HD! YEA!

Does anyone have a coupon or discode code for purchasing MakeMKV. I have used it a lot in past week to rip a lot of Dolby Atmos blu ray discs. Think its worth to contibute by buying, but I never like full price. HA!

WOW! I did the backup of the new Robin Trower "Bridge of Sighs" blu ray to my laptop SSD (not a HDD), took maybe 25 minutes, then ran DVD Audio Extractor using that file folder and bam, worked fine. And like you said, very fast, ripped the 5.1 album in a few minutes!!!! No need to ever go back to AnyDVD HD! YEA!

But now i can't figure out how to do this! Frustrating.

For both Jethro Tull Bursting Out DVD, and now Al Stewart Past, Present & Future Blu Ray, I inserted the disc in my Pioneer blu ray/DVD drive, opened MakeMKV, in MakeMKV I clicked on the second from the left yellow folder with a green arrow, checked "decrypt video file", specified the output directory, and this created a folder "backup", then a subfolder "Al Stewart", and in that subfolder three subfolders "BDMV", "Certificate" and "MAKEMKV". And each folder/subfolder has stuff in it.
Total "backup" file with everything therein is 22.8 GB. Next, I opened DVD Audio Extractor, set "DVD Source" to "Open DVD files from file folder", clicked on the "backup" folder that I made,and I get nothing but the message "No DVD disc found, please insert one or select a different DVD source".

Its really weird. Because I swear I did this exactly the other week for the Robin Trower "Bridge of Sighs" and DVD Audio Extractor worked fine and very fast in ripping the blu ray.

Anyone have any advise?

I may have resolved the issue. I cleaned my cookies, etc using CCleaner app, after deleting DVD Audio Extractor and all files. Then I reinstalled DVD Audio Extractor. Then I took out the blu ray (or DVD) in the attached drive and detached the blu ray drive and I clicked on DVD Audio Extractor to default on a file folder on my laptop as its default. Then I clicked to load not the backup, but the artist file with the album backup inside that I made with MakeMKV. And it worked fine this time! Though I tried the same with a DVD backup and got nothing, but DVD doesn't have copy protection that defeats DVD Audio Extractor anyway so a non-issue.

Another way around is using MakeMKV to make MKV tracks of 5.1 FLAC/DTS-HD & 2 channel FLAC/DTS-HD, then MKVToolNix to get the individual tracks, then label the tracks and covert to FLAC from MKV using JRiver MC 31 (or later). Latter method is somewhat more time consuming though.
