Belafonte's first stereo album. Great recording with sparse arrangements that "quad up" very nicely through the SM. I streamed Qobuz's bloated 24/192 files, but no doubt sane bitrates would also work.

Hey all.

There's a little Aussie band called the Hoodoo Gurus that I love a lot, they've been around since the 1980s and are still going.
Anyway, the first track off their first album, Stone-age Romeo, "(Let's All) Turn On" has a lovely pub-noise intro, it's quiet but I hadn't noticed it before.
And the first track off their second album, Mars needs Guitars - It's called "Bittersweet" and has a great rear-supported introduction to the song.
I believe it's the 2005 remasters of those albums, Tidal plays those by default.

Just heard about the passing of Robbie Robertson. I immediately went for this disc. When i taught, i would often work Black Elk Speaks into the curriculum. I played almost all of this album for students throughout our study of the book. Some songs leant themselves to specific chapters whilst others provided good "background music" as students recorded their thoughts and reactions. This one sounds absolutely phenomenal through the SM v.2. Return in Power, Robbie. I weep as i type. It is a good day to die.

I had a Hoodoo Guru album, can't remember which one, don't now where it went, must have lent it to somebody years ago and you've just reminded me! I first heard then in a tiny flat in the centre of Paris when visiting a friend and she put it on, along with the Lime Spiders (which I still have on CD, I looked) another Australian export!
