I know that this is off topic(actually, no more off topic than posting about hockey 🤷‍♂️) but ponder this. The Cleveland Guardians are trying to figure out what time to schedule their baseball home opener for on April 8th. Their dilemma is, is it a good thing (or not) to have a game interrupted by a full solar eclipse?

They should go for it during the full eclipse. No need to interrupt the game. They do have lights.

Rather, they’re thinking of an up to 4 minute game delay so that people could watch the eclipse. Besides which, birds and any other nonhumans will be seriously freaking out during the eclipse. Stadium lights won’t change that.

As this is a rare event, not to be repeated in the contiguous 48 states until 2044, people are also figuring that it would be cool to say that you were at opening day for the eclipse. Consider that, already, all hotel rooms in Cleveland are booked up for that date.

Edit: Stadium lights also would be considered light pollution which, under the circumstances, would be another mistake on the lake.

I haven't realized what a big deal this is until recently. Buffalo is in the "path of totality" for the April eclipse. They expect thousands of people to travel here to watch it. The county bought thousands of sets of eclipse glasses. Schools are closed. Entire towns in the area are setting up special events for it.

All this for an eclipse? Are we that easily amused?

It's early April in Buffalo people. There could easily be clouds and snow.

In fact, it’s a weather dependent phenomenon. I mean, it will happen either way but if the weather doesn’t cooperate then you won’t be able to appreciate it.

Otherwise, it’s an event that lasts anywhere from seconds to 4 minutes, and it won’t be repeated in most of the US until 2044. Let’s see, I’ll be 93 in 2044 if I live that long.

Summer 2017 was the last time almost all of the USA could experience a total solar eclipse. I worked for a physician at that time & the patient schedule was adjusted to leave a big gap for the event. Most of all our pts that were still there went outside for a look and the staff took turns. It was pretty cool to see the street lights come on things go dark. Even my doc was there in his white coat standing in the parking lot. He refused to look directly at the sun even with official glasses. Retina specialists are just that way I guess.

In my area the upcoming one will be partial but totality starts eastern Missouri .

It reminds me of the extent and expense I would go through as a 17 / 18 year old just for a chance to get laid.

Gene, I know what you mean but try to pretend the Bears are one of the teams playing this weekend😀...@ Soldier Field!
That may make it more interesting!
Actually, I didn't mean what you thought I meant. Now that I reread it, I see how it was misunderstood. What I'm saying is...for you guys with a team in the hunt.....extreme nervousness resulting in projectile vomiting can now commence. lol

I knew exactly what you meant and it started Sunday night.
🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢

The worst part is that it’s not going to change my life one way or the other. So why does it matter so much to me!!!!!?

I dunno. @marpow doesn't strike me as a puker. A yeller maybe....

So @Sonik Wiz , if the Chiefs win it all again, do you think Taylor Swift will accompany Travis during the parade? Imagine the Swiftie interest. The crowd would be huge. They'd have to televise it even. We might even start seeing Tay working with Jake from Progressive soon.

As a side note, did you know there was a white Jake and a black Jake? I was schooled by the misses a day ago.
