The Who - Who’s Next SDE series no. 30 (January 17th, 2025)

I would have so loved it if SDE didn't do Who's Next but rather Quadrophenia instead,the Who's Next sale for SDE is going to be kind of meh, but if it was Quadrophenia, wow a blockbuster. In Atmos of course.

On the contrary, it might be one of their biggest sellers. I know it seems like 'old news' to those of us who bought the box set last year, but a lot of people who would've liked to hear the surround mixes probably skipped it due to the high cost.

The only way I'd buy Quadrophenia on Blu-Ray again is if they redid it with Wilson at the helm.

Indeed... I also dislike being pressured into buying surround sound releases that include vinyl.

I was not impressed with Quadrophenia on Blu-Ray at all. Big let down. Was hoping it would be as good as Tommy on DVD-A or SACD. It did not so I won't get Who's next! Besides, I like Who's Next, I don't LOVE Who's Next.

Your logic is seriously flawed here. Quadrophenia was mixed by Bob Pridden and Richard Whittaker, whereas Who's Next was mixed by Steven Wilson. It does not follow that because you weren't satisfied by the former that the latter will also disappoint.

Well first nothing is flawed because that's my experience. I hope another Who's Next is killer but I have enough of them to not need another I only think is just ok. My experience, no flaw. My Life House Who's Next if just fine. I hope you spend your money on the Blu Ray and it's great!

You do realize that this new standalone Blu-ray contains the same mix as in the Life House box, right? It's not like Quadrophenia, where only a few tracks were on the DVD-A in the box, and the later standalone Blu-ray was the only way to get the full album. Certainly, if Who's Next isn't your favorite album, it's probably not worth it to you to double-up on this SDE release with minimal exclusive bonus content. That's absolutely not how you framed your position in the previous post, however.

I pulled the trigger on this yesterday. I used PayPal but opted to have PayPal NOT convert, leaving the purchase in pounds, which gave me the option to shift any conversion/international fees to the associated credit card, which happens to have no foreign transaction/conversion fees. Someone mentioned using local currency upthread but I didn't know how that worked, so thought I'd share how it worked for me.

For the record, I liked the Quadrophenia BD.
That was a far better recording etc. than Who's Next which every previous version of the box was pretty muddy given the original source, imo.
I concur with Jedi, impossible to draw parallels or extrapolate the 2

No, but when I went in to buy the new Elton John earlier my secure browser suggested I change my SDE password as there had been a breach, could this be linked to the problem? I use paypal so not had a problem as of yet

I'd say that's a smoking gun. Paypal is a separate service, it only exchanges the price/confirmation data between the website and their service. If using SDE and saving the credit card info on file with them, that can absolutely be how the credit card account information was being leaked/stolen.
