I'm sure I will! I really like the whole range of their stuff. Slight preference for the mellower output, but there is a time and place, for me, for the heavier, growly stuff.
I love heavy prog.

Well you should definitely enjoy this album as it's one of their heaviest, but it's still got some mellower moments here and there.
Plus I'm especially anxious to hear what you think of Jens Borgen's surround mix of the album. I've never really been a big fan of his surround mixing skills, but other people still enjoy listening to these mixes.

AND… I should add that the CD has a great cover version of the Deep Purple song "Soldier of Fortune" as a bonus track
Plus there's one music video and a making-of-the-album documentary on the DVD :)

What is a CD???

I look forward to hearing and reviewing the 5.1. Just beware, in case it isn't evident quite yet, I tend to take a "do I enjoy this" approach to listening to surround, rather than "what is technically wrong with this."
Hopefully I'll corroborate some good data, but I tend to be more forgiving of certain mix practices than others.

But seriously, I'll have to spin Soldier of Fortune. Last song on Stormbringer, right? Pretty cool tune, IIRC.

Yep, mixed in Quad and also re-released as a CD/DVD-V set in 2009.
(Still never actually bought that one BTW cause for me it's harder to get into other Deep Purple lineups besides the classic "Machine Head" lineup, but I do also love "Soldier of Fortune" too) :)

I like Stormbringer because it's pretty inaccessible (nothing poppy on it). But, I'll be trying to get Machine Head first. I'm pretty sure Stormbringer is OOP and OOP is usually OOPR (out of price range) for me!
I think Machine Head is now on BD-A and in print?

Nope, it's never been released on Blu-Ray audio yet.
A 'modern' 5.1 mix of the album can be found on DVDA and Multichannel SACD (Japanese edition), while the European Quad mix can be found on DVDV (in a box set) and Multichannel SACD (European edition), but as of right now, there is no Blu-Ray audio version of any of the surround mixes of "Machine Head".
Hope that helps!

I am waiting on my good friend PK to lay down some pithy smack and tell us how he's made out among all the California wildfires and the Bruce(Catlin) Jenners driving old ladies off the road to their deaths. :violin

As for music; the wait has become increasingly more agonizing for:

Pink Floyd - The Wall
YES - Tales From Topographic Oceans
Pink Floyd - Animals
Al Dimeola - Casino
The WHO - WHO's Next
Renaissance - ALL OF IT Baby!!!

Sweet list but Renaissance? You're schooling me again. Wiki here I come...

p.s. I'm NOT going to ask about your avatar

That UK Stormbringer set is PAL, and DTS, so be sure that you're capable of playing PAL before ordering.

The standard US system for video is NTSC (never the same color.) ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) is the standard for HD & other digital formats,

I bought my Stormbringer DVD set from that exact listing @Amazon UK and it is the NTSC version made in EU, pic to follow..

As you can see its Region Free, NTSC, made in E.U. version.

I don't know which territory the PAL version is from but I would be surprised if you received the PAL instead of this NTSC version as the latter is common here, I often saw it in HMV right up until they went bust and I come across it in used record shops fairly frequently.

Maybe you can check UPC with reseller first, edisonbaggins ?

This is the one you want:
