Don't think I have that much time. The only ones I'd recommend against would be Blind Faith (get the platinum SHM instead since it has a new mastering) and Steve Wonder Songs In The Key Of Life.

What don't you like about the Stevie/Songs In The Key SACD? It's my 4th optical disc mastering (others being the 80's Motown CD mastered by John Matousek, 2000 CD mastered by Kevin Reeves, HFPA Blu-ray mastered by A.N.Onymous) and it kicks the others 3's arses! I love it! :p

Hi Cupboy,

If you have the time, I'd like to see a list of these with your recommendations and/or an order of preference. Thanks :)

I can recommend you the Platinum SHM's that are supposedly the same masterings as the SHM-SACDs..

Talking Book - Stevie Wonder,
Innervisions - Stevie Wonder,
Aja - Steely Dan,
Breakfast In America - Supertramp

All sound superb.

..and more DSD transferred SHM-CD's on their way in the mail which I'll comment on when they arrive;
Who's Next - The 'Oo,
What's Going On - Marvin Gaye.

As long as we are talking about Platinum SHMs I would highly recommend Paradise Theater. This sounds very detailed. I've got the AF SACD of this and it doesn't even come close and seems to have had a bit too much bass EQ applied to it.

I even have that disk and still didn't recognize it. I played it less than a week ago too.

While I was in USA I struggled to find many shops that had DVD-Audio, SACD or BluRay Pure Audio discs, seems they are not prepared to try them.

While looking in a dingy bookshop I found 1 x DVD-Audio disc in poor condition for $3.00

Ludwig Van Beethoven - Symphony No.9 in D minor op 125
Label - Teldec DVD-Audio Produced in 2000 Made In Germany Warner Music.

Haven't played it yet as I have a suitcase full of DVDs,CDs etc to get through.

Unfortunately, there are very few if any sellers anymore of the formats, except on the web. The big box stores, have all but given up on the whole idea, and I suspect the only place you'll find any are second hand stores, that could very well be a good source of them. You'll have much better luck on the web. If you find something you want and cannot get it from here, I will do it for any member! Just ask you pay the post, and if you can do this for another person that's all I ask.

Yes, that's pretty much the story these days. Very difficult to find any of the formats except from the audiophile stores on the web - an on occasion in person at an audio show... :)

Sad comment on the format, went into a very popular local music store back when and was looking for dvd audio, asked for it and got the look, you know it-like you're speaking a foreign language, or they just let you out for the day from the psychiatric facility. We did find one disc tossed on with the mix and the store clerks were clueless. Funny, how the two big box stores, CC and BB had the whole (listening) setup displays at first. It lasted like 6 months?

Unfortunately the big chains are not very interested in new formats and things that require effort in doing demonstrations or explanations. No wonder that the web stores are the ones selling music and even audio components these days.

The FYE here recently returned all of the AF CDs and SACDs that they had in stock. I guess they won't be stocking any of them in the future. I'm rarely in the store anymore.
