Just your imagination fredblue. I've still got the one I bought at Best Buy years ago and one I just received a couple of days ago, and the serpent looks identical.

As a result of my close inspection I noticed one of the new cases has a crack. The jiffy bag strikes again.

Nope, just YMMV (Your Metallica May Vary)..

Look at the pix.. the dupes I had were exactly the same = lighter & clearer front art on the later issue, darker and murky-er-er-er front art on the first release.

anyhoo, I'll pick up another copy in time, this one's common as muck and take some comparison shots of my own! :p

I only have 14 DVD-A with those type of jewel cases and only one has the larger hinge (Frampton Comes Alive). I don't own the Metallica disc but it does look interesting.

Larger hinges came later is general rule of thumb afaik.. the packaging is almost the most interesting thing about that Metallica DVD-A and even that's pretty meh.. the mix is just ok.. sound is just ok.. it's just ok, when it should have been amazing!

Honkytonkville - George Strait (Hybrid MultiCh SACD).

Hi Adam
How is the surround mix on George Strait SACD?
Thanks
Anand

Hi Anand, I've not played it yet but I have the same surround album on DVD-A and though I haven't played it for some time I remember the surround mix being fairly subtle but discrete and the sound quality good. I will play the SACD this weekend to refresh my memory and get back to you.

Listening to the SACD now.. there's backing vocals, guitars, strings in the rears.. on some tracks the rears have mostly ambience of the fronts, at other times there's a double stereo effect, in other songs there's much more discrete elements back there, lead vocals in the centre sound nice and sound quality generally is pretty solid.

My latest multi-channel SACD.

Playing time: Stereo 50:10 Multi 52:47

This has some vocals in it, not just a bunch of instrumentals like I had thought it was. This is a good thing. It would have been cool to have had Donovan do the vocals in Season of the Witch.

Saxon-Lionheart cd\Dvda its not to bad. Wish it didn't have such a compressed sound to it, not the worst I have but does detract from the over all enjoyment.
Fans of Iron Maiden might want to check this title out.

Yeah there's A LOT of very compressed DVD Audios unfortunately. Ridiculous. Nothing can be as bad as Staind's 14 shades though:yikes
