Just purchased Queen's The Game from Discogs at a reasonable price. I really like when I get one of this classic, elusive items :p

I remember buying those Queen titles when I first starting buying surround music....along with the Elton John discs.....I was blown away(y)

Same here. The Queen discs in 2002-03 and the EJs in 2006...where has all the time gone..

"..won't somebody tell me,
tell me where have all the good times gone,
say that you remember,
remember all those good old Four Tops' songs,
won't somebody tell me,
where have all the good times gone..."

Today two from Japan arrived, Miles Davis-In A silent Way, Hybrid SACD 5.1 and Billy Joel-The Stranger (Disc 1, 14 tracks) 5.1 SACD & (Disc 2, 12 tracks) Blu-Spec CD2.

Also Arrived today from Europe, 4 Dutton Vocalion 4.0, Charlie Rich, Ronnie Milsap, Dottie West, and Percy Faith.

I will start with, oh heck, lets go Ronnie Milsap. Going to listen to the hard discs, before ripping. Time to relax and listen.

That Miles Davis mch SACD is gorgeous Markie. Discrete and sweet. Have't received my Billy Joel, yet.

Percy Faith, Markie .... are you going Soft on us?

Returned from a trip to Academy Music in New York with a handful of SACDs (and a couple of BDAs, listed elsewhere), all acquired at reasonable prices:
  • Berlioz, Requiem + Mahler, Symphony #1 (Utah Symphony, Abravanel). Vanguard Classics, 2004.
  • Shostakovich, Symphony #8 (Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Kofman). MDG, 2005.
  • Korngold, Violin Concerto + Bernstein, Serenade after Plato's "Symposium." Challenge Classics, 2018.
Now to find the time to listen to them! So far I've heard only the Shostakovich, which is well performed. The recording is fine, and fairly dry, though in spite of the fact that MDG touts its audiophile techniques and its "sound ideal," together with its "2+2+2" system--which in playback involves placing two extra small speakers directly above your fronts--the 5.1 version has ambience only in the rears, and not terribly aggressive ambience at that.

I do love that SACD nook in the corner of the store - used to go there once every few weeks when I lived in NYC.

Assuming you got the Vanguard and not Artemis version of the Abravanel recording, the Artemis recording has mixing errors which were fixed in the Vanguard reissue.

Hmm. Well, on both the cover, the tray card, and the discs themselves, the label is identified as Vanguard Classics. On the other hand, the copyright is attributed to Artemis Classics, the URLS for both Artemis and Vanguard are printed on the tray card and the discs, and the catalog number is ATM CD 1506. So...it looks as if I got the Artemis version. (SA-CD.net seems to confirm this, as the one I bought looks like this rather than this.)

On the other hand...the Vanguard version (2002) seems to predate the Artemis version (2004)--so if there are mixing errors in the latter, then Artemis must have somehow introduced them after the fact? Oh, well. My understanding is that the sonics on this recording were never terribly impressive to begin with. And in any event, at least I only spent twelve bucks!

My bad! The Artemis ones are the good ones. The Omega one is the one with the glitch.

Edit to add - here's a review with a discussion of this: https://www.audaud.com/audaud/JUL-AUG04/hires/hires3.old.html#ber
