Robert Lockwood, Jr. - Delta Crossroads (SACD)

I never bought "Machine Head" simply because I have never been certain which SACD to buy, but even though I'm not a Foreigner fan, overall I really do enjoy "4" and its surround mix, and I hope you do too! :)

To me, the REAL Machine Head mix in MCH is the SQ/ UK/SACD one....
and , just for gigs and shittles, the Roger Glover remix from the Box set is NOT TOO SHABBY either(but it's stereo)

For me the quad reel will always be king. I hope AF will tackle this one some day.

I doubt that, given that the Quad mix already exists on Multichannel SACD.
I would much prefer it if Audio Fidelity would continue to give us Quad mixes that have never been released before on Multichannel SACD rather than toy with ones that already have been.

Blackwater Park is great... Check out Pale Communion as well (more Proggy, less Metally)

Yes, I love their latest! I like their mellower stuff even more than the growly stuff, though they do both very well.
Heritage is another great one.
As far as surround releases go, I think Ghost Reveries is the only one I don't have.

The quad mix on the quad reel has never been released in any hi resolution format, SACD or DVD audio.

If you compare the sound from one of the '70s Quad Reel Tapes to the Audio Fidelity Multichannel SACDs of today, there is clearly a new sonic king in town - the Multichannel SACD edition! :)

It is.

The DVD-A is also a different mix from the Euro SACD 5.1, DVD-V included with the Machine Head box, and the UK SQ LP.

Wow…I knew that the DVD-A and Japanese SACD had a modern 5.1 surround mix, but I definitely did not know that there were two different Quad mixes made.

That being said, I would still prefer other Deep Purple albums released in Quad or other Quad albums released by other artists to be reissued on SACD by AF as I think "Machine Head" is definitely covered pretty well already on modern surround formats.

The European quad mix= SQ, European q8 and SACD
The US quad mix= Cd-4, q8 and q4.
New 5.1 mix= dvd audio
If you have them all compare the song Lazy. The US quad mix is different from the European mix. The swirling organ by Jon Lord at the beginning is mixed completely different and blows away the version on the SQ and SACD version. It also has a small guitar part after Jon's organ solo that is completely missing from all other versions. I have 2 quad reels. The first one is worn out from probably a hundred
listens. The second is practically brand new and awaiting a conversion by me some day when I figure it out and have the time.
