Dutton Vocalion using SACD is a mistake in my opinion. On top of the issues with the audio (pain to rip, high frequency noise shaping etc) it pretty much means one stereo and one multi channel version of the music. With blu ray and some simple menus it's trivial to have multiple stereo tracks, 4.0, 5.1 etc. and some music videos etc ie whatever exists related to the album can be put on there.

DV are seemingly ticking over quite nicely and with Hybrid SACDs playable on all CD players i imagine they're mindful of not alienating their bread and butter existing customer base of CD buyers and Classical Music buffs from long before they started doing Quad, 6 or 7 years ago.. but who knows what's on the horizon for them, things have gone a bit quiet again in Watford but it's usually the calm before the storm with the Wizard, so let's see!

anyway this is a smashing new Rhino Quadio thread and such lovely news and a wonderful most welcome development. some of the Warner/Elektra/Atlantic (etc) Quads are among the best mixes of all-time!!

who knows, maybe we'll get some more Bread in Quad, or a David Gates 2-fer on 1 Blu-ray (great mixes and the 2nd Quad's a short album!) or one of the absolute smash WEA Quad mixes, "Intergalactic Trot" by Robert Mason & Stardrive, with Steve Gadd on drums, no less, it's an absolute Surround Sound tour du force extravaganza!!! for Rhino the possibilities are endless, well kinda!!

BEYOND the BEST NEWS I've heard all day .... make that ALL year [so far]! Just when you think the WEA Group/Rhino have abandoned their delightful and sonically superb QUADIO BD~A program, ForagingRhino emerges with news of four individual QUADIO releases.

And as I've stated in previous posts......NOBODY DOES IT BETTER THAN WHEN RHINO PUTS THEIR NOSE TO THE GRIND AND RELEASES THOSE 1970's COVETED QUAD CHESTNUTS!

hmm for a number of these WEA Quads i've only ever heard the albums in Quad, never owning or even sampling the Stereo!!

I think I can tell you that they will be BluRay Audios with stereo and quad mixes. They will pretty much be just like the Chicago Quadio Box and Doobies releases. They will be, well, Awesome!!

I am sure that ForagingRhino worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to get these things released. I am pleased that the forum is solidly behind them, and hope we can show WB/Rhino that there still is a market for high resolution multichannel discs.

Also, I am very honored that Steve chose to make this announcement at this forum. That says a lot about this membership, which makes me sort of proud, you know?

you should be proud! you brought us bunch of Surround loving nutters together under your Quad umbrella in the first place!

Not sure if this would have a big enough effect, but "War Pigs" on Paranoid is missing the speed-up at the end - I guess that could maybe throw off the sync from the stereo version? Alice Cooper's Billion Dollar Babies also has a lot of stuff mixed out of the stereo version - like the vocals during that section of "Unfinished Sweet" with the dentist drill sound effects - but I'm not sure if the album length is actually different. Same for Jackson Browne's Late For The Sky, at least one song has a different take of the lead vocal.

oh gosh Mister P... are there any WEA Quads that changed the running order? we all know some of the infamous instances of labels like CBS & Capitol cheekily rejigging tracklists for the time constraints of the 2 programmes on Q8 tapes but i don't know about Warners etc.?
