Thanks. As a Cdn I was always aware of the Guess Who and heard them regularly at parties and on the radio. I can't say I had any of their albums, maybe a best-of collection but man listening to these Quad albums makes me realize just how great they were Burton Cummings voice is as good as any lead singer I've ever heard. He can do rock/ballads as good as anyone. If anyone has not ordered Guess Who quads, I suggest to get them while you still can.

Old SQ LP box set = £15 plus shipping
(added ticks, clicks and pops = no extra charge)

New SACD = £11.99 plus p&p

this ol' birds on fire!! 🤒

Flu~sniffling👃, watery~eyed 👀Adam of London Town, am anxiously awaiting your review of the clickless/tickless, popless DV QUAD SACD of GIANT BOX, as we, across the vast frozen pond🌊 won't be privy to its charms for quite some time.

And BTW

Looking forward to reports on these latest 6 once people get a chance to hear them could be soon for European buyers I would think.

do you want the truth or something beautiful... 😉

seriously, i'll go through them all with a fine-toothed comb this weekend but on the basis of one late night playthrough last night apiece of Giant Box, Argent's "In Deep" and the Blood Sweat & Tears 2-fer i'm very happy indeed.

so far these three discs came across in all their unvarnished/untampered-with beauty as gloriously as i could have hoped for.

with a sympathetic hand on the mastering controls, as always with Dutton Vocalion's Quad releases, what's on the tapes comes right on through, for better or worse.

now that is very often for the better, though i ought to mention both "In Deep" and "Mirror Image" start out kinda splashy and a bit saturated but i feel that's inherent in the actual recordings for both those individual tracks ("God Gave Rock & Roll To You" & "Tell Me That I'm Wrong") because they always sounded that way both in Stereo and on the Quad LPs and Q8s were also kinda wooly with some distortion too.

however neither opener on those albums is representative of the fidelity once the music gathers momentum the sound quality on the pair of them just gets better and better!

the BS&T 2-fer in particular has some absolutely incredible sounding tracks, totally wiping the floor with the old Q8s and SQ LPs, time and again i was picking out gorgeous details on "Mirror Image" & "New City" in particular.

also, it was so nice to hear those piano laden Argent tracks without my old Q8's tape wobble or the SQ LPs wow & flutter.. honestly it felt like the disc really wanted cranking more than i could at that time of night but i intend to give it a right royal whack of the wick at full pelt tomorrow, so standby for more fulsome feedback! 👍

you're welcome 🙂
tbh i don't know any of those 3 albums in Quad, Artificial Paradise is scarce and they're all said to be faux mixes so i hesitated to get the other two. regardless, if DV were to do them on SACD i would buy them all.
more than anything i'd love Burton's solo Quad album from '76 but that feels like a long shot, who knows 🤷‍♀️

thanks Ralphie! its not just the power of music that will get me through this bout.. but the power of balloons!! 🎉😘

I've heard both of these (conversions), and I'm not too crazy about the Booger Bear, but I'm more interested in the Live title (content), and to see how it sounds. But sure, gotta get 'em all
I’m thinking 🤔 I really liked the tune “LOUIE’S BLUES” on this one, been awhile though???
* Yup, LOL - just sampled on YouTube; it’s a real nice slow B-3? & guitar infused blues rambler!

:eek:And the poor unwanted toddler left at the Abbey doors was???

Argent was most famous for the hit "Hold Your Head Up" (not on any of these). Rod Argent was lead singer with the Zombies "Time of the Season". The hit form "In Deep" was "God Gave Rock And Roll To You". I'm sure you can find all those on YouTube.
Actually, while Time of the Season was written by keyboard player Rod Argent , the lead singer of that song was Colin Blunstone:rolleyes:

So when you whack the wick do you get a sticky wicket?

hahaha!!! 🤣

that wicket gets as sticky as sticky the stick insect when he got stuck to a sticky bun! 😂

(its an expression a friend on WHF used to use re: turning up the volume on an amp.. i thought it so good i pinched it! 👀 😁 )

edit: God bless this warming tumbler of Amaretto Disaronno 😘 its shifting my symptoms better than any medicine 🍻

Well, i'm in Europe but no way i'm going to order something until January 7, postal service here lately had been "erratic" at best - since i don't want to be censored - so i need to wait two weeks more.
