Had there been no quad mix, there would have been no SACD of these two albums at all. And the albums been virtually forgotten. Mark Lindsay should count his blessings and lucky stars that they did in fact do a couple of quad mixes of his act’s albums.
That's a bit harsh, but I do understand your perspective. In Mr. Lindsay's defense, I would like to note his attitudes have changed over the years.
Funny thing is, he was aware of the Indian Res Quad mix back then, but had no idea that Hard & Heavy was prepared. Still, Mr. Mark mixed many songs with Terry Melcher and Eric Prestidge through the years. The guy knew how to mix
his music the way
he wanted to. It's not that he was against Quad, he was against the fact that
he had no input on how things were done - and I too, believe that to be wrong. It's his music: Writing and arrangements. With his input at the board, perhaps they could have avoided things like sticking the bass in the back left corner, or splitting the drum kit up between Front Left and Back Right. Maybe his input could've made the record even better? And just maybe we'd have seen MORE Quad output from them because they enjoyed doing it and having a chance to be creative in another medium? Maybe they'd have pushed Columbia for more?
Two sides to every coin, my friend.
And I know as somebody who has a creative side, I know I'd be royally pissed off if some jackass were to fuck with my shit. Pardon my colloquialism.
