I can't think of another band that changed(evolved)so much(and so quickly) in style and actually increased their popularity...

I'm sure that's exactly what threw me. Sure, decades later it's impossible not to immediately realize it's John and Paul singing, but it didn't sound like "She Loves You" so I never made the connection.

Bands that evolved that dramatically might make an interesting list. My knee wants to jerk and put Pink Floyd on it, but the gap between "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and "Wish You Were Here" was almost as long as the Beatles' entire time together! (Includes a major personnel change, too.)

The Talking Heads deserve a spot, though...who could have predicted that "Remain in Light" would show up only three years after "Talking Heads 77"?

Free-for-All SQ featuring my favorite solo Nugent song, Dog Eat Dog. I still have my Mainstream 45 of my very fave, Journey to the Center of the Mind.

Kamakazi on the 100th floor, swan dive to the street...

Totally agree there...and his vision with The Amboy Dukes....great, groundbreaking stuff. Hey! How bout some Ted in Quad? Or Dukes?? Whoa...

Speaking of ELO not making it to the RR Hall Of Fame...what about the Doobie Brothers...they have been doing it for a LONG time at a high level...and a few others to consider...Dire Straits...Def Leppard..Motley Crue...and someone close to your heart...Ted Nugent...but Ted might not make it for political reasons....he's a magnet for controversy..I think he belongs on his guitar ability alone...

The Doobie Bros. should definitely be in the RR Hall Of Fame, great music and an amazing live band, unfortunately I've only ever got to see them once, about 15 years ago. We also need all their Quad albums re-released!

For those "ultra intense" fans of Bob Dylan...there is a Criterion Collection Blu Ray being released entitled Don't Look Back....it APPEARS this one is more about Dylan the person...not the musician....I get the impression that there is very little music in this presentation...one reason I'm not interested in it...but I wanted to mention it for those aforementioned "ultra intense"(sounds better than fanboy)fans....here is the release...

Here is a clip about the piece

Hey all - though I cannot confirm how this all works, but the Scorpions are in concert September 12th, 2015 in Brooklyn, NY (9:10 PM Eastern Time)...and I "guess" they are streaming the show live via YAHOO Live Nation. Here is the LINK in case you want to give it a shot...

Good find my man....more about it here..also of note...things that bounce...just saying..

Don't look back is an acquired taste. Donovan is in it, too. It's a D.A. Pennebaker film. Being a Zim completist, I have it on a prerecorded VHS and a DVD.

That is the best lace to buy it...$18 plus tax and shipping is cheap compared to other places like amazon HERE..or Ebay HERE..or discogs HERE...looks like a valuable "collectible" in the future...if that interests you...

I wish someone would "whisper" in Jeff Lynne's ear about the virtues of surround sound...his recent decision to release the Hyde Park concert in "stereo" was a major mistake...the cool thing about Jeff is HE owns the rights to all the ELO catalog...so if someone could convince him that hi rez music is something that could sell...we could have some awesome music...and he's been given the green light to release some new ELO music...check this recent article out here

Are you sure Jeff owns the ELO catalogue? Last time I checked (just now), I saw that the vast majority of the ELO recordings were owned by a subsidiary of Sony Music.

You might be right....in the last full paragraph in that link I posted it mentioned he had acquired the ELO "name"...which might not include the rights...in any event...given his past feelings about sound modes...it's probably not relevant anyway....I've always been puzzled why ELO wasn't supported on the Zoom tour...poor attendance forced them to stop the tour...this latest Hyde park concert made me remember how much I liked that music...just a shame that a lot of the music I love end up with crappy sounding products...

The audio review of this title (ELO/Jeff Lynne live in Hyde Park) says it all:

It might seem positively counterintuitive that music as multilayered, even stratified, as Lynne's is wouldn't receive a multichannel presentation on Blu-ray, but there's a telling quote from Jeff himself in the accompanying insert booklet which "reveals" all: "It's important to me that viewers experience the Hyde Park show exactly as it was performed on the night. . .in stereo." Now some may want to quibble with that presentation of what the audio experience in Hyde Park actually was that evening, but the score above reflects what's actually on the disc, namely an LPCM 2.0 mix, rather than what might have been on it. The stereo mix sounds a bit muddled at times in the mid to lower midranges, a place where Lynne tends to like to voice his keyboards and even guitars, as beds for the lush vocals resting from that range upward. That said, generally speaking this is a clear and well defined presentation that certainly is extremely well mixed for a stereo offering, with excellent prioritization given vocals.

Does Jeff Lynne not know that you can have BOTH stereo & surround audio options on DVD & Blu-Ray discs?! Good grief...

Like I mentioned in the Beatles thread, it'll be interesting to hear how he mixes "Free As a Bird" and "Real Love" into 5.1. I think it should tell us a lot about his attitude towards surround. Will they be like Minstrel in the Gallery or Station to Station? (I'm hoping more of the former!)

There was a band from Rockford Illinois that was formed in 1973...it went thru some changes and played in bowling alleys..warehouses...anywhere they could in the Midwest and got a shot at a recording contract and released an album..although the critics liked it...the sales were poor...another release got the same low sales in the US...BUT the band was a major success in Japan...and many in Japan were hailing this group as the "American Beatles"...after 3 low selling albums in the US the next Japanese venture at Budokan was another Japanese smash and some songs from that concert were released in the US...and that is all it took for this band to achieve international success and rocket up the charts...
