There was band from Rockford Illinois that was formed in 1973...it went thru some changes and played in bowling alleys..warehouses...anywhere they could in the Midwest and got a shot at a recording contract and released an album..although the critics liked it...the sales were poor...another release got the same low sales in the US...BUT the band was a major success in Japan...and many in Japan were hailing this group as the "American Beatles"...after 3 low selling albums in the US the next Japanese venture at Budokan was another Japanese smash and some songs from that concert were released in the US...and that is all it took for this band to achieve international success and rocket up the charts...

I've got almost every one of their albums... Cheap Trick always reminded me of a harder rocking Beatles; anything in surround would be fantastic... And always a great show! ( but rarely the headliners:()

One of my first concerts..saw them in the "All Shook Up" tour with Pete Comita on bass, who got PROMPTLY fired cause he OWNED Rick as a guitarist .the bass solo was WAY BETTER Than ANY of Rick's....
Then I saw them a couple of times with Jon on Bass....NEVER saw them with the CLASSIC lineup...and the only time they came to Spain , I HAD A GIG THAT DAY!!!!

LOVE THEM!!!

This is the first time in many years that I've ever cancelled an order just because I'm feeling the financial pinch of so many purchases on the horizon. Whoa....

Anyway - just cancelled the Velvet Underground Re-Loaded 5 disc box. I mean, the surround is only in DD & DTS as far as I can tell and really....while I'd love to have this....$70 shipped is a lot of money and I can think of about 4-5 other items I want worse I suppose.... :violin

Well...IMO...that one is suspect anyway...it's not like pre ordering a Steven Wilson project...I'm going to wait and hear some input after some early adopters test the waters...just because you don't pre order doesn't mean you can't get it later...I don't think this one is going to fly off the shelves...remember all that talk about the Doors Quad SACD release...if you didn't get it early you might be out of luck...well it's still available at various outlets..what is interesting to me is that we have several factions in our small surround community....one group is upset about all the releases we don't have yet or might not get...another is upset because we have too many options and they need them "spread out" more so they are affordable...and there is another group that I find myself in...passing on some surround titles that I feel that I wouldn't like....I passed on Rattle That Lock...up until that point I had purchased most of these titles that I had doubts about and at least tried to see if I could acquire a taste for the music...but experiments like The Endless River and the Roger Waters disc pretty much ended in total dissatisfaction...

Don't be so hard on yourself....you just had a home improvement project...you will bounce back my friend:)

I to will wait on this but $70 plus shipping is cheap.Amazon.ca wants $120.00 Canadian so that's gonna be my rationale. There used to be a Rhino records Canada but it seems to have disappeared and Amazon.ca seems to have taken up the mega bucks ordering attitude.

I'm optimistic that the surround s/b at least half decent, but I must wait til I can afford this bugger.

Today, we should all wish a happy 70th birthday to the incredible Bryan Ferry!
If you're so lucky to own the SACDs of albums like "Avalon" and/or "Boys & Girls", today would be a good day to give them a spin! :)

Although I have both of those, I pulled out Best of Roxy 2ch SACD, which I've only heard a couple times.

There's a band playing on the radio...

Oh, that reminds me of another stellar release!
The Blu-Ray concert film "Live in Lyon", which includes a fantastic performance of "Oh Yeah!" and several other Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music classics! :)

A very poor picture, I know...but see the guy in the back row with the green square on the right side of his head? That's Geddy Lee at today's game in Toronto. Apparently he's been a Jays season ticket holder since 1979. He was even keeping a score sheet.

Yeah Him and Alex are big Bluejay fans.........with them gonna make the playoffs they gotta be in heaven!!!!

Snood lives in Florida............when they tour they seem to always time their concerts around bluejays spring training in Dunedin Florida which is near Tampa............this year though they were in Tampa around May during regular season - no Bluejays in sight until late June.

You could always usually time them for Florida around Spring training except this year. Like Clockwork

I had the good fortune to meet Bun's mom, Vie Carlson, a few years ago on a service call. What a firecracker she was! Spent about 20 minutes on the actual service call part, and once I told her I was a big Cheap Trick fan (I'd just had Budokan blasting away in my shop the previous day!), we just talked & talked for another hour or more. She had some great stories about Brad (she wasn't crazy about the name "Bun," heh) and Rick growing up there in Rockford, and the trials & tribulations of the band through the years, and various & sundry other topics.

She was also a musician, with 2 Yamaha Clavinovas, a big old Allen theater organ, and a tiny Bun E. Carlos Signature Version Ludwig drum kit in the music room. I asked if the drums were for Bun to practice on when he was home, and she quickly replied, "Oh, no, I've been learning to play a little!" That explained it - they were just her size, hee!

One of the most enjoyable service calls of my entire career. Vie passed away in 2012; may she rest in peace.
