Listening to this great old album this morning....

A friend of mine brought this piano player to my attention this week:

Of course Metallica's music will always need an electric guitar's edge, but I think Kirk's solos and the clean melodic parts translate pretty well to solo piano..

(and GOD I love Punk / Goth fashion :smokin )

Odd - I've been trying to access Acoustic Sounds website all morning...and it just...won't....load. Maybe they are "re-loading" their LP stock since I've depleted it. lol

Recommended listening, HIGHLY recommended actually (y):chill:chill:chill

SAVOY BROWN. Some of their best albums I think. All are available on UMG'S BGO record label.

I'm a big fan of these late 60's titles a couple early 70's as well.

Such amazing British Blues Rock........needs the "treatment"

Regarding Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band in 5.1 -

it seems Swingin' for the Fences and XXL are relatively well-known around these parts, but I haven't seen mention of The Phat Pack or Act Your Age.
I just found both for <$10. The customer comments indicate that the bonus DVD contains the album in 5.1. I'll report back when I learn more.

Listening to an absolute KILLER DSD64 download of this....this may very well be as good as this genre can sound. If you like the Crows, and can handle DSD64....do not hesitate.

I have the AP Stereo SACD of Counting Crows: August and Everything else and it IS one of the best sounding Stereo SACDs in my collection. Originally recorded on analogue equipment. Another NO BRAINER is the absolutely brilliant new AP stereo SACD release of Nils Lofgren LIVE acoustic. I've never owned a Nils Lofgren recording so this was somewhat of a revelation.

BTW, GOS, I HIGHLY recommend the companion BD~V ( el cheapo @ AmazonUS) of August and Everything else: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Counting-Crows-August-And-Everything-After-Blu-ray/25896/#Review

Duritz is simply amazing on this release and the audio/video is state of the art....and ironically, WAY cheaper than the DSD download and/or Stereo SACD. [120 minutes/DTS~HD MA 5.1]

Appreciate what you find on The Phat Pack, EB. I find Amazon listings confusing (shocker). One is likely what you found with 2 discs listed, one appearing to be a DVD. Another listing shows a DVD+Cd and it looks expensive/OOP. The DR database has no listing for any DVD-A outside of XXL and SFTF. Hmmm. But the again, it's not uncommon for DR to not contain every disc in print. The numbers on their CD's aren't very attractive, but I'd be quite interested in The Phat Pack if that's a DVD-A included for that price...

Dang, stumbled (no pun intended) across a Stevie Nicks interview where she candidly discusses her coke and booze behaviors from back in the mid 70's.

For all you fans of Santana digging Santana IV like I am, this is NOT the first time this group has reunited. They reunited in '97 sans Carlos as Abraxas Pool. There was a CD released on BMG/Miramar Productions 09006-23082-2. It features Rolie, Shrieve, Carabello and Schon with Jose "Chepito" Areas & Alphonso Johnson. YOU NEED IT!!

I have to agree with you. I brought the new Santana CD and am disappointed. This CD is nothing like the Santana III album which last featured most of the new CD lineup.
No balls, no fire, just like the pop crap from Smooth etc.

Interesting..I REALLY enjoyed it....on the one hand , it has been over 40 years since then, so you can't expect it to be Santana III part 2, but something way more mature, which I find what this is....
Maybe it has a couple of filler songs, but overall , I like it very much...

Adrenalin and hormone levels are definitely not the same as when you are 20....

001.jpgI received these 2 today...it's going to be awhile before I listen to them...but it should prove interesting...comparing the Dylan Hoffman mastered Gold Cd with this new SACD version....it's clear that the Dylan disc was made in Austria...but the Cars disc?...couldn't find it mentioned anywhere..

Heh... First they bashed all cover bands, and now they bash themselves?

It's interesting when you buy so much music that you don't take the time to fully inspect what you bought. So, I've had Van Morrison Moondance - Deluxe edition for quite a while now. It goes without saying that the quality of the mix is excellent. Just a few minutes ago I saw it on my shelf...staring at me. So, I pull it down and thumb through the pages...... Didn't even realize that Elliot Scheiner was behind the surround mix. How cool. Also, he writes some notes on pages 21-23 about his history with this album. Great stuff.

For those that own this....if you haven't read...please do. Just a great story by Elliot.
